Prayer...

Postby TGJesusfreak » Sat Sep 18, 2010 10:57 am

Hey guys. I just have a lot of stress right now. I'm freaking out inside and I don't know how much more I can take. I fear that some of my friends are unhappy with me right now and all that.

I need a job.
I need to get my learners permit (which because of me being homeschooled means I have to wait until I'm 18 DX)
I have no idea what to do for College, scholarships etc...
I need to take my GED so I can officially graduate
I need to take my SAT.

I'm going freakin' nuts guys. The stress is killing me. And I'm just plain frustrated in general because the girl I like a lot lives 200 freakin' miles away.

College and everything else is hard because of my handicaped sister who needs 24/7 care. along with a very tedious financial situation. I have no idea where to go and I'm completely lost and confused. so yeah. That's it.

There's a handy site called http://www.collegeboard.com/ where you can register for the SAT. That site can also help you in searching for a college that offers the major(s) you're interested in.
Also, you can google "scholarships" and find a whole boatload of them and more. And, usually idividual colleges will offer scholarships. So, if you decide a place to go, you can check out the scholarships they offer. ^_^

I don't know the requirements from state to state, but I know that not all colleges require the GED test to gain enrollment (maybe just the SAT or the ACT and maybe the compass test). That's what I've seen from my experience, at least. Do your research on that definitely. If it's required in your state though, don't stress over it. Same with the SAT. They aren't terribly difficult if you study, just long and tiring.

I'll be praying, TG. I'm in a similar situation (especially concerning financial stuff, among other things), so I can relate somewhat to your frustration.

Hang in there. ^__^

Thanks Goldy, that's actually the site I'm studying for my SAT on. I hear it's pretty good.

But yeah I also just want to take my GED so I can actually say I graduated high school. Gonna be taking to college level physics here soon too. That's kinda stressful as well.

Thanks a lot Goldy. I have some of an idea of where to go now.

I'll be praying as well ^^

As for the friends being mad at you, you can't please everyone.. As much as you want to, but can't please them all :\ All I can say is try talking to them.

Ask around for what are the different options and try not to overwhelm yourself ^^ Tackle one task at a time ^^ Maybe concentrate on current school stuff and then worry about the learner's permit later.

Hang in there TG

I just have a question- is that the law in your state, that you have to be 18 if homeschooled to get a learners permit? Usually, the law has a minimum age you must be, and a written test that you need to pass, and you need to have taken a class that covered the basic laws (we had a driver's school in our area that my homeschooled friends went to for that)..... and proof of residency and a SS card, but nothing other than that. Are you sure that isn't for the license?
I have no idea what to do for College, scholarships etc...

Those are always so hard! Goldenspines has a great link there- Collegeboard really helped me a lot! I was able to sign up for my SAT and look for colleges, and it was a great all-around resource!

If you're worried about finances, it might be a good idea to look into community colleges near you first, since they're cheap and credits usually transer to other colleges fairly easily if you need to go to a 4-year for your degree. You can go 'undecided' for a year and take basic classes in each subject, so you can figure out what you want to do and what God wants you to do.

And they usually have a financial aid office that will direct you to scholarships that the college has, the state offers, and information about national ones- FAFSA might be something that you would want to look into, for instance.

Praying that things look up for you!

I and my brothers were homeschooled. I got my learner's permit at 15. I think you can enroll in driver's ed classes either with a local high school or with a driving school. It depends on your state laws.

As for me, I didn't take the GED, but I still got a diploma. My mom was able to go buy a diploma, fill it out, and have it notarized. You should look into what your state laws are for the administration of a diploma.

My brothers took the GED, and found it so simple they were bored to tears, so I wouldn't worry to much about that. I took the ACT and the SAT (TWICE, despite getting a decent score. Fricking mom and her not-being-satisfied with me not being as smart as my brothers. >:|) at the high school in the district I lived in. But this may all seem more simple to me because my mother took care of a lot of it. If you're taking care of it on your own, I can understand why you're stressed. I'll pray.

Praying for you! I think Tsuki made a good suggestion, work hard towards one part at a time, I find that helps.
And this I pray, that your love would abound still, more and more with real knowledge and all discernment. Be prepared to preach the gospel at a moment's notice. Do you know the gospel well enough to do so yourself? Be ready.

Quick question, ever thought about the School of ministry? You can become a minister for the handicapped people. You've certainly got the experience with your sister but having to leave a relative behind is going to be hard. Then again, there is always the online source. The International School of ministry http://www.isom.org/en/isom would be a good start. God willing, you can work on becoming a minister for the disabled. This way, you keep the memory of your sister alive and the love you developed for her despite her disability, this certainly gives you a heart for them. Might be your best interest to learn sign language.

As for the financial strain about getting into college, check around to see if there is a law against putting personal fliers on street light poles. If there is nothing against, give a brief description of your situation, ask for penny donations. Pray to God to open a door for you and your family.

Matthew 6:33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. "New Living Translation"
Psalms 82:3-4
Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless;
maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.
Rescue the weak and needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

Praying for you! I understand quite a lot of what you're going through, and the transition from high school to college can be very stressful! I'll be praying that God gives you some direction soon!

@Atria I'm not entirely sure yet. I'm working stuff out as far as that goes. So far I've found Oregon law kinda prevents it so far... I'm looking for a loophole XDDD

@Mid I want to be a youth minister and go into Christian Counceling. :) I just have o get through all this CRAP in my life right now. @__@

@Everyone else Thank you so much for your prayers... I think things might be looking up a bit. :)

http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/DMV/TEEN/permit.shtml

After looking through it, I did notice that it says that you need proof of school enrollment. After clicking on the link that links, and scrolling down, under 'Homeschooling', it says that "You need to obtain a completed Statement of Enrollment (Form 735-7185) from your educational service district office."

http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/DMV/TEEN/school.shtml#Enrollment_Proof

So it is totally legal for you to have one when you're 17- you just need one of those forms.
