It's question time!

Aha! I did it! I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. All I had to do is wait for all you rubes to stop asking each other questions, and then when I posted my Q&A thread, I'd be seen as a trendsetter! It pays to be patient, see.

...I'm such a genius.

So, anyway, I'm David. You know the drill: you people ask me questions, and I'll answer them.

What are your favorite anime/manga?

Aha, I was expecting that one. After all, this is an anime forum.

I don't watch a whole lot of anime]Favorite anime: [/B]
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - If you've seen it, I probably don't have to explain it. If not, then you should probably watch it, if only for the last few episodes, when things get ramped up considerably.

Big O - It's Batman! With mecha! A shame the second season got hopelessly bogged down in that whole ontological mystery stuff they tried to add, and a double shame they didn't get the next season they needed to resolve the mess they made.

FLCL - Unlike Big O, FLCL was trying to be as confusing as possible, and I didn't expect them to explain everything. I just watched it and enjoyed it.

Favorite manga:
20th Century Boys - It's pretty much Lost in manga form: shifts in time and perspective, a driving mystery, great characters, etc. I loved its intensity, and admired its realism.

Fullmetal Alchemist - I like the manga better. So what? I love its look and feel, the world it's set in, and the plot. It just keeps getting better.

Yotsuba&! - It's hilarious. Someone on the Internet once compared it to printed joy, and I'd have to agree. It's great fun to watch the characters bounce off of each other (especially Yanda and Yotsuba) and react to Yotsuba's antics.

Favorite writers:

Philip Reeve - The Mortal Engines series is great, it's about cities on tank treads that drive around and eat each other, and you should read it. I'm trying to get into Here Lies Arthur, but it isn't really doing it for me.

Solomon (ghostwritten by God) - Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, and a lot of the Proverbs. When God gave him wisdom, God wasn't messing around.

C. S. Lewis - Mere Christianity. That is all. His other stuff is good, but nothing else reaches that level.

Lemony Snicket/Daniel Handler - A Series of Unfortunate Events: His writing style is absolutely awesome and completely unique. Too bad about the last book, though.

Favorite Western animation:

Megas XLR - *pokes avatar* Two slackers get a giant robot from the future and run roughshod over everything mecha, anime and sci-fi. Hilarity ensues.

Batman Beyond - For whatever reason, I like this more than the other Batman animated series I've seen (though I haven't seen B:TAS); its tone is a lot more mature than, say The Batman or The Brave and the Bold.

Favorite live-action TV:

Doctor Who - Say what you want about the special effects, the new Doctor, etc., but this is good sci-fi.

Top Gear - Three British guys mess around with cars: driving fast, expensive ones, using old cheap ones to cross continents, building their own... It's awesome.

Mystery Science Theatre 3000 - A guy and two robots watch the worst movies ever and insult them as they watch. That's all there is to it, really, but it's one of the funniest shows ever.

Firefly - Canceled well before its prime, it's an awesome space Western: revolver-based shoot-ups and train robberies from aboard spaceships abound.

Early Edition - A guy gets tomorrow's paper today, and uses it to fix the future. It's a very simple concept, but they do a whole lot of great stuff with it.

Where would you go if you could go anywhere?
Is this a good question to ask?

/me blows the dust off the thread.

Where would you go if you could go anywhere?
Hmmmm... Probably North Korea. It looks like a fascinating place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. Failing that, I'd probably go to New Zealand or Australia, places that I would like to live.

Is this a good question to ask?
I don't know, you tell me. You're the one who asked it.

As many as he wants. If you want to stop him, be my guest.

Firestorm wrote:if you lived in any other time period which would it be?

Probably the Victorian era or the '20s: they're exotic and wildly different, but it's much less disease-ridden and unhygenic than, say, the Middle Ages. After all, I am going to be living in those time periods.

Firestorm wrote:if you had a broken time and space machine that only took you back in time and not move you spacally and you went back 5 days would you be in the same place (remember your not moving but the world and the universe are still revolving.)

I think I would be in the same spot. Maybe in a different chair, though.

Mine came first, therefore, you were obviously inspired by my thread to create your own. See? I started a trend. I'm a trendsetter.

Jazz. I can play jazz (on the piano) but I can't tap dance.

Google. Did you really have to ask? They've got Google Earth]

I loved Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? [the game show with Rockapella, not the animated one (though I found that one later and kinda liked it)]; it got me into geography in the most awesome way possible. It was a sad day indeed when they replaced it with Where in Time, which I used to think was scary (I was like 7, OK?); now, it's just kinda cheesy.

And then there was Bill Nye the Science Guy. It's another one of those '90s shows that made educational TV awesome. It's even better now, since I see how well they explained all that stuff.

Also, Garfield and Friends. I liked the comics, but not so much anymore. The show is so far above and beyond what the comics ever were, and, like Bill Nye, when I go through clips of it, it still surprises me how great it is.

Yup, I like Star Trek. I liked the new movie, but series-wise, I like TNG best.

Orange! It's just pretty looking.

I love The Princess Bride, The Incredibles, Duck Soup, It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, and The Dark Knight. And that's not counting the movies MST3K has made better, like Space Mutiny, Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders or The Final Sacrifice.
