I'm going to list my favorite since the rest of the guys haven't had the guts to say this.

I like Ariel Esmeralda the best, because there are hot!

There, I said it as to what most guys would be thinking and one of the reasons why we males would watch any of the Disney Princess movies.

[color="RoyalBlue"]Belle of course! I've always loved that film and collected some dolls, & plushies from it. Not to mention cheesing my sister off because I can sing every song, lol!

Seriously I relate to her love of books, and not just doing what is expected of her including settling down and living the usual life as she said I want so much more than this Provencal life.
Other than Belle, I like Ariel, Pocahontas the real one, and Mulan. ^^

Radical Dreamer (post: 1360874) wrote:It's too bad Snow White's voice is absolutely grating. XDD I can't stand watching that movie, just because of how horrid her voice is. XD

In the 90's on the Today show they had the original Snow White voice actor Adriana Caselotti who was in her seventies on and she could still do the voice which I thought was pretty cool.

Belle is awesome! I think one of the few princesses who actually finds true love!

I'm a little surprised though. As totally hardcore as Mulan is, everyone I know loves Ariel. I thought it would be a landslide. Huh. Interesting.

I gotta be honest though. Jasmine has WAY more votes than I thought she would...

Grrrrrrr, it was between Mulan and Ariel for me ^__^

My vote went to Ariel, though ^__^ I guess because we have the whole curiousness in common ^__^

Besides, who didn't want to be a mermaid after seeing The Little Mermaid, and she had the prettiest singing voice <33

I'm a total Disney fangirl to begin with and there really isn't one princess that I hate. They're all equally awesome but I guess if I had to pick between them I'd choose Belle, Ariel, Aurora, Mulan, and Alice. Though Alice really isn't a princess. I also like Megara from Hercules (LOVE LOVE LOVE that movie).

I cannot wait for Rapunzel.

goldenspines (post: 1360669) wrote:Giselle. (both cartoon and human form)

I loved Giselle in Enchanted. It's too bad Disney will never offically make her a part of the "Disney Princesses" franchise because then they'd have to pay Amy Adams. XD

Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) is my favorite. Then Mulan, she's resourceful and can fight. I also love the Princess's side kicks/friends.

In the book version, Eilonwy from The Black Cauldron is a great character--she's very assertive and will literally fight tooth and nail if any of the villains try to subdue her. then there are the animal princesses, like Nala and Maid Marian. Why are they also excluded? Simply because they're animals?

I agree Eilonwy is great. But, it seems that the film didn't do all that superb.
Maid Marion is also another great character. Perhaps, the animated Robin Hood movie didn't do well in terms of money either?

Anyways, I picked Ariel.

I think the reason Eilonwy is omitted is that she's not an original character. True, neither areBelle, Ariel, Aurora, Cinderella, or Alice. But they're public domain, so that doesn't matter.

Ariel is a mermaid that has king of the seas as her father. That should automatically make her superior.

Ariel isn't a mermaid though, she became human at the end of the movie. So now she's human. Which is pretty good because, well...y'know.

Yeah, but Esmeralda isn't a princess. Besides, Disney ruined that story.

1. Singing gargoyles. And they weren't even the cool ones from the Gargoyles cartoon!
Oh, and there weren't any singing gargoyles in the book
2. In the book, Philemon (or whatever his name is. The dude that's sweet on Esmerelda) is a jerk who only wants Esmeralda for her body. He's not supposed to be likeable.
3. It's not supposed to be a happy ending. I think ending the story sadly gives it more impact. Giving it a happy ending makes it cheap. Did you know Disney's the only company that gave the story a happy ending? That should tell you something.

Now this I can understand, but I'd take it with a grain of salt. Disney was probably already pushing the envelope with Frollo, who is certainly one of the darkest villains they've ever done (and done well). Really, there are any number of practical reasons to change Philemon's character, though a valid complaint.

But there was no singing lobster that sang " Under the Sea" in the book as well.

I didn't have a problem with Disney making a movie that they didn't go word from word from the book. The only ones that I can that should be made from word to word from a book, if the book is base on writings of history.

But this is not the case with these movies, so why have them base from word to word from a book. If you did, you just be better of reading the book.

By this logic, Aladdin sucks. Oh, and The Little Mermaid. And Beauty and the Beast, too. Sleeping Beauty also sucks! Man, EVERY animated Disney movie sucks according to you. Crazy.

In what universe do you live that Disney's Little Mermaid is FAITHFUL? Let's see here.

1. In the original, the sea witch told the mermaid that she would feel as if she was walking on knives when she gained legs, and her feet would bleed. This was completely dropped in the Disney version. She didn't even feel mild discomfort.

2. The Disney version had the prince be seduced by Ursula to take him away from Ariel. In the original, the prince wasn't seduced at all, he simply fell for another woman and lost interest in the mermaid.

3. In the original, the mermaid's sisters, in an attempt to save her, sell their hair to the sea witch in exchange for a knife. They tell the mermaid to kill the prince and let his blood spill on her feet, she'll regain her mermaid tail and can return to the sea. Unable to do this, the mermaid casts the knife away and throws herself into the sea, and dissolves into foam.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but if I recall in the Disney version, there's a big fight against Ursula and they beat her and the prince is all "Oh I love you Ariel!" and Ariel gets her voice back and they get married and everyone is happy!

And you say this is faithful. And that conversely, despite the fact that they changed literally EVERYTHING about the Little Mermaid and it's still so great, that Hunchback of Notre Dame is terrible because...it has singing gargoyles.

Tristan: That makes perfect sense!

OK, I didn't like The LIttle Mermaid's original ending. That's why I like the Disney version better. The mermaid deserved a happy ending.

The mermaid didn't have a bad ending in the original. Remember, she became a "daughter of the air" and by doing good deeds she would earn a soul and then go to Heaven. Yeah, she didn't get with the prince but she didn't exactly have a sad ending. As far as marrying the prince being a "better" ending, I guess that's personal opinion.

However it seems a bit hypocritical at best to say that Hunchback sucks for Disney changing it to have a happy ending, and that Little Mermaid is awesome for Disney changing it to have a happier ending.

Besides, changing endings to "happily ever after" is pretty par for the course for Disney films. I mean they're for kids. Snow White didn't really end so well for everyone in the original, and stuff like Pocahontas was flat out completely changed...I guess having Pocahontas become horribly ill and die wasn't really the best ending to a Disney film.

And let's not even get into what they did to Hercules. Oh boy.
