The SNES!

Ah, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System/Super Famicom. What a great system. Anyone else a huge fan of it, like I am? I mean, when you've got F-Zero, Axelay, FF6 and Mega Man X on a game system, you know it was great. Maybe I am just a raving fanboy, but I'm curious if anyone else thinks about it that way.

It was great. I kicked myself for selling my first one off >_<.
Alot of the good games have been translated to VC on the Wii, but that's still lacking great games like Kirby Superstar, Earthbound, and Star Fox. I'm glad I have an SNES to play those. I know Kirby Superstar is on the DS, but it's still good to play on the SNES.

Good hardware. Mith has one and if he's not careful it might disappear one of these days when I visit. ;-)

Still, my classic console of choice will always be the Intellivision, with the VCS and the Dreamcast battling it out for second place.

Ah, the good old Super NES -- home of some other unmentioned classics like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and the original Super Mario Kart, and the less-than-popular Illusion of Gaia. (Didn't like the ending to that one, but we'll save that for a spoiler in some other thread. XD; ) Good times. ^__^

And if we're talking about our favorite classic consoles, my favorites would have to be both the Atari 2600 and the Commodore VIC-20. :3 (And the original NES is right up there too. )

The SNES holds a special place in my heart, for sure. And it DOES have Super Mario RPG, Yoshi's Island, and Kirby Superstar, so what's not to like?

But the VIC-20 is a computer. Admittedly considered limited even when it was sold, but I don't know if I'd lump that under a console system.

I will admit things like the ColecoVision blurred that line sometimes, though, but the VIC-20 was never positioned as a console. Jack Tramiel hated that idea.

The SNES is my favorite console ever. It has all three of my top games of all time:

Earthbound (has some of the best music ever)
LoZ: A Link to the Past
Final Fantasy 6

Plus, no magic rituals are required to get the games to work (unlike the NES). It is awesome.

The SNES is special for me because it is my first gaming experience. Or rather, the Super Famicom was. No, I'm not calling an SNES a Super Famicom, I'm actually talking about an actual Super Famicom, with the four-coloured buttons and curvy cartridges. I never owned one, but I had constant exposure to it from our frequent trips to extended family.

Early on, it meant some great gaming with my cousins, as we went through Rock and Roll Racing, Super Mario Kart, Super Bomberman 4, Puzzle Bobble, Street Fighter II, Gundam Wing Endless Duel, and one of the DBZ games. Later, when I was older, the SNES was a treasure trove of great single-player games: Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Link to the Past, FFVI, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG.

I don't think there's been another console that has gripped me quite like the SNES did.

I own that game and I played it, but never beat it. I don't remember how far I got. I just remember I was annoyed by that raft part where you had to keep killing fish.

Haha! If you want to play NES games but don't like emulation or Virtual Console, get on eBay and find one of the top-loading models. Yes, Nintendo really made such a thing. It fixed the design flaw; works like a charm. (Plus it takes up less space.) Only problem is they're not all that common so they go for about a hundred bucks.

I have a top loading model and I can say with 100% assurance this is wrong. Top loaders have the same connection problems the front loaders do... I have to keep my NES propped against something so the cart stays at a weird angle in order to get it to work.

What IS supposed to solve the problem, however, are the non-nintendo made famiclones (which are Legal now, as Nintendo's patents ran out a few years back)

Top-loading NES consoles are rare? O_o well I'll be, I have one and although I've had problems with it, the old blow on the cartridge trick usually fixed everything.

XD By the time I was born, my dad had moved on to PlayStation. But SNES...EarthBound was totally the greatest game ever. LOVE IT. Plus, my cousin had one, and we'd play Super Mario World til midnight or so, when our seven/eight year old bodies would give out and we'd fall asleep. It was great...but then it broke. XD Oh well.

I remember, quite a few years back, going to my distant (both in relations and in distance from our house) cousins' house, and they had a SNES emulator, so I messed around on it, trying out a few games and stuff. Then, when I really got into gaming and looking it up on the Internet, I realized, "Wow, that was that one game I played!" and seeking those old games out to finish them; Chrono Trigger was one example. When I first played it, at the time, I thought it was too similar to Golden Sun (another one I played for a little bit when a friend brought it over), but now I see that as a sign of the influence the SNES-era RPGs had and continue to have.

And that was my introduction to the SNES, which I've only continued to grow to love. Come to think of it, Chrono Trigger and A Link to the Past were the only games I played then that I've since come back to, but there's still that influence. If/when I have kids and if they turn gamer, I'm gonna at least suggest a couple of the golden oldies.

Man, those things are so awesome in theory. They've also made one that'll toss the Genesis in to the works. The catch, as I've heard it from storekeepers is that they've got an insanely huge return ratio for a product of that type. They just don't seem to work well, nor do they appear to work on every system.

That's too bad, because that is a really, really cool concept. I can see why some games wouldn't play, though, like those with special lockout or graphics chips (one example of the latter would be the Super FX chip, as used in Star Fox). But, man, I need to try that thing out, just to have a physical SNES, or to get the games that aren't likely to go on Virtual Console.

The SNES is still probably my favorite gaming system. I love Zombies Ate My Neighbors, F-Zero, Phalanx, Megaman X 1-3, Samurai Showdown, Street Fighter II, Super Metroid...yeah, there's a ton I love (and most of those I listed I still own).

The SNES has held up much better than I would have anticipated it to; I'm surprised I still enjoy as many of the games as I still do.

Anyway, I love my SNES! Me and my nephew play it quite often! I'm a fan of the old school, even though I've owned a N64 and the original PlayStation (The grey one with the flip-top). My favorite game, hands down, has got to be Super Mario World! 90+ levels of pure joy![/color][/SIZE][/font]

I caught the tail-end of the SNES era and then along came a PS. I did have Super Mario World, Star Fox, and the Lion King. Absolutely loved Star Fox to death.
