The Orange Box

Have a video game or or VG review? This is the place to to discuss it! We also accept discussions of board games and the like, but SHHH! Don't tell anyone, OK?

Postby Gabriel 9.0 » Sun Nov 25, 2007 10:27 pm

I hear the every game within the Orange Box is worth getting. It would be nice if they did the same for Half-Life one and its expansions. Just think , that would so radical to play on the X-Box 360 etc.
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Hebrews 4-4
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

James 4
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

If you get the PC version of Orange box, you can get Black Mesa source, I think it's called, which is Half Life 1 with the HL2 engine... And there's one that's counterstrike with the HL2 engine, too, and that's supposed to be pretty incredible...

You can't do that with the console versions... because they don't do mods on the consoles for Half Life... Unreal Tournament (only on PS3) yeah, but not Half Life, you need to do PC for that.

UT3 is coming out for 360 as well, or do you mean the PS3 version will allow mods?

Looks great!
I just hope my computer can run it okay, (I checked it's performance and it's half way between minimum and recommended requirements).
Fails mainly in the graphics card area and could have a bit faster processor. But what can you do with little money? lol

I see, but I was talking about a X-box 360 enhanced version of Half-Life, its expansions Half-Life Opposing Force and Half-Life Blue Shift. Thanks for informing me about that though, I'll be sure to look into it.

The PS3 version will allow mods and the 360 won't... Not due to epic's choice, but because of the way Xbox live and PSN are structured, it's possible on PSN, and not on Xbox live. Epic is trying to figure out how to get them to work on the 360, but until they get something figured out, they'll be PC and PS3 only.

Black Mesa: Source won't be out for a while, lol. Valve also has no inclination to pursue in any graphical enhancements for Half-Life. They made Half-Life: Source a while back, but that's all they're kinda doing.

Steam won't really work too well if you're on Dial-Up and Steam is the only way to get individual games separately.

Sorry. D:

:D I finally got the Orange Box!
I've beaten Portal, and am waiting for everything else to finish updating.

Um... Does TF2 work with a 56k connection? If so, I'd like to join the CAA Steam community.

I think Portal is the best game on the Orange Box. It's totally mind-blowing.

Yeah, I bought The Orange Box for $65 (bargain!)
Have to wait for it to be delivered though.
It's still around $90 here in Australia.
Can't wait to play it.
(And my computer should be able to run it no problem now. I just bought a NVidia 9500GT 512Mb graphics card - not state of the art at all but still okay and much better than my previous 6600GT 128Mb).

I love The Orange Box. While HL2 Episode Two and Portal are great, I've been playing TF2 since the beta, just about one of the best online FPS' I've ever played.

Yeah, I remember when the first TF2 screenshots came out. It sure looked different. I guess it would though after being developed and changed for about 8-10 years.

I remember that. That version of TF2 didn't seem too true to TF and TFC, but looked good anyways. After they scrapped that version, they worked on a new one, which I heard had a "50's sci-fi look", that one got scrapped as well. Even the third version of TF2 (the current one) had different concepts at first, such as having a claymation look or something, and the characters getting blown to chunks of clay after getting blown up.

Actually, I was at GameStop yesterday and in the pc section of the store, I saw a copy of Portal that was seperate from the Orange Box. I didn't check the price while I was there though. Sorry.

EDIT: Oh, I didn't see that you had already gotten the orange box.

Yeah now you can get them individually, but during it's initial release this was not the case.

Although there are realistic military based games I enjoy, it's a very unoriginal and over used concept. The reason Return to Castle Wolfenstein is my favorite WWII game is not only because it's fun, but because it has the whole Quake / horror side to it.

Since I'll be getting the Orange Box any day soon I set up a Steam account.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/Tintinrulz/

Just wondering if there's any way I can make sure it installs from the CDs/DVD/whatever and not Steam (I don't want to go over my bandwidth limit and shouldn't need to since I'm buying a physical retail copy).
I realise updates are downloaded (but that's different). Is there any way to force Steam to install the games using the actual CDs/DVD?
Thanks all!

I'm not actually sure, W4J... Even if you have the disc, I think it still downloads most of the game files via Steam.

However, I could easily be wrong. XD
