Such a pity. Though there are other voice actors that do a good job, I think this is a terrible loss.

I always kind of carried a hetero-torch for this guy. I've wanted to do voicework - commercials, radio, anything - since I was a little boy. This guy's like a hero.

Wow! My sister and I always joke "there is that guys voice again", whenever we watch a movie preview. I thought it was a bunch of different people trying to sound athoritative with that "gruff voice". I didn't know that it actually was just one guy. Rest in peace man.

I hate this....that guy's voice was so cool!....it's pretty much irreplaceable. I remember when I finally saw the man himself on the Geico spot I was like, "This is that guy?! Wow!" because he didn't look like he would have that kind of voice.

What's really odd is that just the other day I was randomly thinking about what movie trailers were going to be like in the future after this guy died. :eh:

Definitely. No one else has that gravelly, bassy, trach-ring-waiting-to-happen voice. . . . well, maybe David Hayter. But I'd just crack up hearing Solid Snake do movie trailer voiceovers.

Well, there are at least two knockoffs available. But I much prefer Caliendo doing his John Madden impression.

EDIT: There's also Hal Douglas for preview voices, but uh, he's not a young man. I don't know if he's still alive, either.

Yeah, if you guys could keep Nita (his wife), and his daughters in your prayers during this time - I'm sure they need them.

Funny thing...I was in a few online groups for voice actors, and a few people were complaining about some people asking others to pray for Don recently (apparently it's bad form in the industry to reveal in any way that a voice actor is sick, because they could lose work as a result).

Even so, I'm blown away by the loss of Don LaFontaine, and perhaps I would do well to repeat his admonition to others: If you smoke - stop it! It doesn't make your voice cool, and can give you cancer (apparently Don smoked for a long time, but ended up quitting and still having some lingering effects - the cancer that necessitated his chemo and radiation treatment).

I am sad to see such a good man go - I had the pleasure of seeing him on TV for an episode of Big Idea with Donnie Deutsch, and he was definitely a humble guy who still seemed awed by the whole idea of him getting to be as big as he was. I pray God would bless his family during this time, and also raise up Christian voice talents to be a light in the industry.

For proof that Don LaFontaine was the greatest at making anything dramatic, see this trailer for AP Calculus: 3rd Period.

I'm going to the theatre on Friday (as is normal for me to do on my days off.)

I'm kinda dreading it now, though, cause now... I dunno. Movie trailers are just never going to be the same. :waah!:

Is it weird to be feeling this way?

May he rest in peace. Hearing his voice in film trailers was always awesome...
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Hebrews 4-4
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

James 4
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
