one thing I like about them is that they are clean. As well they usually have scriptures in the songs them self. And in some cases they are better then the original group

Then it seems we are at an impasse.

You know every time I see someone has written on this thread I get so nervous. I think it's another debate starting.

Yet not to start anything, and please don't take it that way...I find it interesting that people love the youtube video of Baby Got Book yet people have issues with this band who does similar work.
Now please no one respond back about personal taste and whatnot. I know all that. I don't want another debate.

I think the reason people who dislike Apologetix yet enjoy "Baby Got Book" is that the latter doesn't take itself seriously at all. At least, that's the way I see it. YMMV, of course.

Bill Waterson was in the same field as Bill Keane, and there is little arguement as to who we'd all rather read.

Basically, Baby Got Book does right what Apologetix does wrong.

As a moderator, I want to say that everyone should carry on but be careful to avoid mockery or nonproductive conflict. As a member, I will hopefully further dialogue instead of stopping it:

I don't think this is fair. You ask everyone not to debate when the point of your post is to make an argument against the position other than your own.

For my part, I feel the two have a very different goal in mind. Baby Got Book intends to be ridiculous and succeeds. Apologetix intends to preach and can be fairly overbearing. The best example of theirs that comes to mind is "The Real Sin Savior", which I will assume this video plays: http://youtube.com/watch?v=t5bVL6YK1AQ
Decent source material: the original song is a ridiculous display of self-important aggrandizing. They start off with essentially an attempt at evangelism: not really funny, but not many Christians are going to dismiss that out of hand. But then the parody song comes off about as arrogant. It's music catering to a specialized audience who want to hear a message they already believe repeated to them, who will relate a line like:
Puttin' Christians down sayin' "It's just a crutch"

Yet all that portion of the song really says is "people need a savior" - it doesn't have any other message and it essentially just asserts this (there are no apologetics here, no real arguments that would convince anyone). Is this particularly funny? I guess it might be to some people.

Let me end with a verse from a song by Steve Taylor, still in my mind the greatest Christian satire artist of all time. Note how it treats the same accusation (that religion is a crutch) yet does so in an entirely different manner. This is the difference between what I would call real satire and the things I don't like about Apologetix.
"You'll march if all the streets are full
A two bit closet radical
No time to check the end result
Expedience is your catapult

Convictions make your skin to crawl
You act like you're above it all
You say faith is a crutch for a mind that's closed?
You guzzle your crutch and shove it up your nose"

I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to get anything started. I just thought it was an interesting observation. I was really just curious as to why Baby Got Book was okay, when others thought this band was awful.
I'll be more careful in the future about what I post. I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to come across as trying to start something. And also to clarify, by debate I meant people getting angry. I'm all for people sharing their ideas and positions. I just didn't want another heated thing. I've seen it on other parts of the site and it can get out of hand. I realize now that debate isn't the correct word to use. I meant more of a screaming match.

Cynical of human nature as I am, deep inside I really hope no one here is going to get mad over a band.

I like their parody of 1985 - none to lady like I think it cool how they get the story and not sugarcoating it.
