The Forbidden Kingdom (April 18)

Postby jon_jinn » Wed Apr 09, 2008 5:45 pm

what do you guys think about this movie? jet li meets jackie chan right? but the overall plot concept seems totally cliched and the director of the movie doesn't seem like the type to direct a good martial arts movie...

Well, the trailers have truly snagged my intrest.....Even if the story is bad, just watching Jackie Chan duke it out with Jet Li is enough to intrigue me for an hour or two....

Jackie Chan said in an interview (with a Chinese newspaper, of course), that the movie kind of sucks and it's made for Americans. (Gotta love that he's so blatantly honest-- to Chinese people.)

That won't stop me from watching it, but I won't waltz in with hugely great expectations. Still expect the fights and the ambience to be good. Jackie Chan as a drunkard should be amusing.

Okay, so in spite of all the negativity flying around this movie...

I completely loved it. Yes, it was very Neverending Story meets Fushigi Yugi (but also some LoTR thrown in there), and more than a little cheesy, but so what? Jackie Chan seems to have popped some stereoids or something since Rush Hour 3 and his epic fight scene with Jet Li was just all kinds of awesome. I was immensely pleased with this movie and would totally see it again/buy on DVD.

I'll be seeing this movie this weekend. I think it looks like most of those flicks in this genre, very kung-fu-ish with a cliched but fun story. It kind of looks like the Wizard of Oz Asian style what with the Witch and everything. ^__^ Plus, I am biased I love Jackie Chan and Jet Li. They're just so darn cute.

I wasn't all that impressed with "Forbidden Kingdom". My girlfriend and I saw that movie last night. The fight scene between Jackie Chan and Jet Li was pretty cool, and there was one really funny scene that happens when they were in the desert, but overall I thought the film lacked the creativity that it needed.

Unless Jackie Chan is teamed up with the right actor (Chris Tucker and Owen Wilson), then the movie isn't as good as it should be. Chris Tucker was great at bringing all the humor to the "Rush Hour" movies and Owen Wilson has several good one-liners in "Shanghai Noon". With "Forbidden Kingdom", you had two Hong Kong martial arts masters teamed up and their was plenty of action, but the chemistry between the two were not there. I'm not trying to be evil, but that's what I think.
Wherever you are in life, Jesus loves you very much!;)
