Just finished watching it. It was pretty decent. I've actually enjoyed the 4 Batman: TAS episodes more so far.

Incidentally, the four episode "bonus feature" is longer in length than the six new anime style shorts.

If you have the chance, get the special edition or blu ray, it's worth the extra cash.

If that is the case, I may hold my money and buy the Batman:TAS box sets.

ANN did a review on it and they give the art an B+, Animation A- and a C- for story and overall, they give it a C+.

The comment about it was this,

ANN revew wrote:Beautiful background art, some decent fight scenes, it has Batman in it and Batman is pretty cool, but uniformly mediocre in nearly every other way.

Got the two-disc set in the mail the other day. I finally got around to watching it earlier... it was a complete snooze. The art and animation was good for the most part except for the first "episode". The art in that one was absolutely horrible!! I liked the art in the second and the final "episode" the best. It had some good music too. But to be honest, I didn't like how each one was a different style. And the way it was broken up made it feel quite choppy. Anyway... for a 76 minute film I sure felt like I was sitting there for two hours.

Anyway... I was EXTREMELY disappointed with it. I thought it would be at least as well done and thought out as Highlander: Search for Vengeance... which isn't fantastic but it is a good japanese "adaption" of an american hero character. This felt more like a cash in and to get it out asap, before the Dark Knight comes out...

Bummer cause I was really anticipating this. Seriously this is the most disappointing and uninteresting anime I think I've ever watched.

I'm going to be the voice of dissent here and say that I very much enjoyed the Gotham Knight 6-part thingie. I really dug a lot of what they did with it (Crossfire, In Darkness Dwells, and Deadshot were particularly great) and I'll defend my argument a little more later. I'm off to Warped Tour nao.
I'm a shoe-in for hater of the year.

Oh man so I watched this last night.

I loved it. XD My favorites were definitely the first one (Have I Got A Story For You) and the last one (Deadshot).

I LOVED the first one for the fun and unique art style and the setup of the story--it was really well told. XD It was definitely the most light-hearted of the six, and I thought the art style really accentuated that feel it was meant to have. XD I'm half-interested in seeing Tekkonkinkreet (if I can even spell it XD) now, since it was done by the same guy.

Deadshot was definitely amazing for the art and action. XD I loved his character design, and Batman's design was epic in that one too. Definitely the smoothest of the six, I thought.

As for the rest of them:

Crossfire: I liked this one. The dark, stylized shading was fun to watch, and it was neat to see the characters develop. Not my top favorite, but definitely awesome.

Field Test: Oh MAN I laughed hard. XD BRUCE WAYNE = BISHOUNEN WHO KNEW. It was a pretty good short though; I liked it. XD The art style and general mood were definitely the most familiar of the six to me as an anime fan, but I really enjoyed it. XD

In Darkness Dwells: Dude I am pretty sure I saw Batman lose a shoulder bone (or maybe it was just really late and I was seeing things XD). Another one with that really dark, stylized animation, and I liked it a lot. Again, not my favorite of the six, but definitely good.

Working Through Pain: Augh LEAST favorite. XD It wasn't bad throughout the majority of the film--really good art, an interesting story, a pretty sweet fight scene, etc. But the ending totally killed it for me. XD Maybe I just didn't get it but after all of that, it seemed like Batman was just being a total pansy. XD

Also, Alfred had some good lines and I enjoyed that. XD

I'm going to watch the four extra episodes from TAS later on, but for now I definitely love it. XD

I didn't think the DVD was bad but I have to say I was a bit disappointed. The plot was a little thin and the animation, while good, varied a lot and was overall nothing spectacular (some of the character design choices were unique--and that's all I'll say about that). It's a good rental but had I bought it (my friend did in fact buy it) I would have wanted my money back.
