We are all called to act out our faith and we are called to act differently. Here is something that has been tugging on my heart for some time now.

This country (being the United States) founded itself on the belief that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

In this spirit, in one of the darkest times in this country's history, these words were penned:

In the beauty of the lilies, Christ was born across the sea;
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me;
As he died to make men holy, let us die to make men free;
While God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

These ideas weigh heavily on my heart and shape my beliefs and principles. To this end, I ask all who are willing to stand with me and call for the end of all slavery, especially the most heinous of them all – the trafficking of children for sex.

Obviously this is one of the major human rights issues of our time. I wasn't aware of this particular site, but I respect their goals.

At the same time, this is another of the difficult issues. We can raise money or awareness, but ultimately there is very little we can do from our position here. Leaving luxury here and working directly with this or another major problem is an option, and I'm disturbed by the idea that I'm too selfish to take it.

I know the feeling. Until the people themselves decide to deal with the problem, we can only do so much. (Not to say such things do not happen here as well, but clearly there is a total lack of government support and will to fight in some of these places)

It took 100 years and a Civil War for the United States to deal with slavery. It took another 100 years to level the playing field and we are still dealing with the ramifications of all of that today.

The point is that a majority of the population of the US has probably never been pro-slavery, even in the height of slavery, but even during the Civil War, a majority of Americans did not think the issue was worth fighting over.

Similarly, I believe most people everywhere are against the trafficking of humans - especially children as sex slaves, but an ultimate solution will not come until enough people are willing to actually fight against it. They are up against an multi-billion dollar industry that cares nothing for human life or decency, and fighting that is a daunting task to say the least.
