Final Fantasy Dissidia

Super Smash Brothers formula for success applied to Final Fantasy?

Looks like it's happening, and on the PSP no less. I'll admit, the critic in me is skeptical as to how this will turn out, but if Square can successfully pull it off, I'll have another reason other than MGS Portable Ops to look in the PSP's general direction over that of the DS.

I don't understand why this is on a hand held device. Fighting games typically don't perform well on them.

Regardless of odd business decisions, I'm rather split on this one. The old Final Fantasy fan in me is hopeful that I will be able to clobber Cloud with Locke. The straight gamer in me is having horrible flashbacks of Ehrgeiz and The Bouncer.

Also, your avatar is made of 100% pure.... *stare* You, my good sir, are a horrible, horrible person.

Locke? Psh. Edgar's tools of the trade, man.

And true, fighting games generally don't fare well on handhelds (sans Shounen Jump Super Stars it seems), but I will admit the PSP has the power to handle something like this, from what I've seen of MGS Portable Ops.

With all the different things Square is trying out right now am I really surprised? The answer, is 'no'.

Dear Squenix: Thank-you for finally remembering that FF9 exists. But why the PSP? WHY?

Because now they're making a list of reasons why I should get a PSP eventually, even though I disslike them (a DSer myself) :/ It's their little ploy to get PSPs to sell more and well, they ARE moreso affiliated with Sony :/

Not sure if this game would quite be something to add to my "reasons to get a PSP" list, but I know Crisis Core sure is!

Freakin' yeah. Next to Locke, Zidane is the best thief in the series! And he rocks very hard. Despite Kujo's creepy androgeny something about him was also quite awesome.

Still... Something's up when the only reason I have to get a PSP is a long list of squenix games. Well, that and the Joan of Arc game.

This is true. Also:

Dear Sqeenix: If you give me the ability to kick Sephiroth's behind with Vivi, I will love you forever. Also, could you please remember to put characters in this game from before FFVII?

Also, is anyone else getting a bit tired of Nomura's designs have so many seemingly useless zippers? I'm half expecting Vivi to come out of his artbook with zippers and straps all over his hat for no apparent reason other than that it looks cool.

Drat, I don't own a PSP. I wonder if there's a chance it'll be on a the PS2 or 3 eventually.

To make you ask questions.

*Hugs his PSP... His MGS : PO, his Loco Roco, his PS1 playing abilities, his 4 gig memory stick, and soon to be Crisis Core and Final Fantasy Smash brothers...*

*hugs his DDR pad, and makes the selection screen jump all over the place, because he's so excited he just got a C on a heavy song!*

I know, I know, off topic. I'm just really excited...

Why on PSP?
Because it's an excellent handheld system and most of its games have top-notch graphics.
I'm saving up for one myself.

Crap, I didn't even realize I actually posted it... I was doing it and thought "Nah, it's a bit much... I need to back off on the fanboy stuff... It's not helping me, really..."

Obviously the logical side of my brain is being held prison by the "do whatever the crap it wants" side...

I never take anything back, though... Except smileys where I meant to type letters...

My brother has a PSP and it sounds like an interesting idea... but I won't get it. I don't really play handheld games so it would turn out to be a waste of money. My brother has gamefly... maybe I could convince him to let me rent it for a week or something.

Kuja had more class than kefka. Looked better too. I'll take creepily effeminate over clown makeup any day. Though I will say that playing through FF6 again has made me realize I want to beat down Kefka more than I have any other FF baddy. Except maybe Seymour. That man was like a cockroach!

Kuja earns points for his witty banter.

While I will admit it has been awhile since I played FFVI, I don't think that this is a fair comparison.
I think that Kefka achieved his original goals. From what I remember, Kefka wanted power, and obtained it. Kefka wanted to rule the world, and he did. It was only as he was on the brink of death that he decided to destroy everything.

Whereas Kuja wanted to destroy the everything from the beginning. He failed at this. So he never met his original goals.

I could be remembering incorrectly, though. If I am, that will be a good excuse to play both games again.
Regardless, I am extremely tempted to buy a PSP right now. I'd be able to play all of these games.

Kefka gets crazy points. Kuja wins in the style department.

But either way, their motivations are so vastly dissimilar that I don't see how Kuja could be compared to Kefka. Unless you're looking at the makeup.

Yeah. I think the only fair comparison to make between the two is how long it takes them to get ready in the morning. Hah.
It's looking like the PSP is shaping up to be a handheld renowned for its strategy RPGs. Nice to know. Won't be getting one for a long time, but this does make me rethink getting one. This and Tactics and the Joan of Arc game. And Loco Rocco. Always wanted to play that.
