Um...I dunno if a thread like this has already been made or not, but who are your favorite animators, if you have any?
Strictly from an art style/animation style point of view, I like Bones the best (Fullmetal Alchemist, Wolf's Rain, Scrapped Princess, etc.). There are other animes I enjoy just as much, but Bones's art style is my favorite. They have a very smooth, sharp way of drawing things. I especially like Pacifica's curls in Scrapped Princess.

Looking at a lot of shows I've watched and enjoyed recently, I'd have to go with Gonzo.

Oh man.

The fanboy in me has to say Gainax, just for the whole "by otaku, for otaku" philosophy. Then again, that very philosophy has led them to a LOT of bad, self-indulgent ideas.

Bones is definitely a favorite of mine, if only for Eureka Seven :)

Speaking of which, Sunrise has done a LOT of great stuff over the years: Gundam, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Patlabor, the list goes on. (and they taught the founders of Bones the tricks of the trade)

Bones is a fairly good studio, and Mad House and Gonzo I hold in high esteemed in the art and animation department, though not always their changes to the source material.

KyoAni has owned the animation scene for the past 2 years and they still have the potential to go strong... stuff like Lucky Star won't help them, but CLANNAD and Haruhi 2 will.

But my favorite as far as being consistently amazing goes to J.C. Staff.

Bones and Gonzo for me as well. Ghibli too, though the only Miyazaki pieces that really struck a chord with me were Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle. Aniplex is good as well, though I mainly say that since they put out Fullmetal Alchemist :-P

I like the plot, stories, characters, and such of Studio Ghibli films, but not their art style so much - at least not the faces, like Warrior 4 Jesus said. Somehow, they all seem to be the same. I got VERY confused in Howl's Moving Castle, because all the pageboys in the royal castle looked just like Howl as a child, just with blond hair. And the scarecrow-prince also looked so much like Howl that it took me a bit to figure it out.

Interesting, I think Howl's Moving Castle was the only Miyazaki I didn't fall in love with (besides Pom Poko, but that was for 'anatomical' reasons mainly. The character design and animation were to die for but the story just wasn't very good.

I agree that the faces of Hayao Miazaki may be rather ambiguous, but his scenery is breathtaking. That scene in Howl's Moving castle where Howl shows Sophie his childhood hideaway? Beautiful!

And I also agree that the movie was hard to follow, but you can't pass up a bishie like Howl! XD About the fifth time you watch it, it gets easier to understand...

But actually,Spirited Away is, as of now, my favorite of Miazaki's.

Hmmm...I didn't find Howl's Moving Castle very confusing at all. I could understand it almost completely by the second time I watched it (I watched it first in Japanese, then the second time in English). Not half as confusing as the book, where they
go to Wales and don't even really explain how Howl found out about Sophie in the first place to get the Witch of the Waste angry with him.
The movie's story is simpler than the book's, but I kinda like the movie better anyway. Howl has a bit better of a reputation, although he's cowardly, and Sophie isn't so nosy.
