Lunar 2 woes

Alright, I've been playing the 1st Lunar for PS1, I loved it SO much that I decided to try to get the 2nd Lunar, so, I tried calling around to different Game Stops, and I found one that had it! So I drove a half an hour out of my way to pick it up, then when I get there.... its scratched up... so then they called a few other places, and... one a store a block away had another copy! I quickly drove over there and I inspected the game discs! They look perfect! So later on I drove back home, I put disc 1 in my PS2 to test it out.... all that came of that was this horrid grinding sound, so I took the disc out, it was then that I discovered several scratcs, why weren't these seen before? I think its because of the lighting that Game Stop uses, well anyways I was pretty bummed out, I'm just glad I could go to the Game Stop right by my house instead of having to spend ANOTHER hour on the road just to get a refund. So yeah /rant.

Gah, I hate it when things like that happen! Nowadays, I often wonder why Store Clerks even take in some video games. I worked in a video game store for two years that did trade-ins, if there was a scratch on it I would not take the disc back. I would sell the individual a Game Doctor (CD-scratch repair) because they apparently cannot take care of their own belongings. "Once you clean all the scratches off the disc I'll take it in trade, Sir/Ma'am." Unfortunately, they didn't like that most of the time. Oh well, I'd rather tick off the individual who ruined the disc instead of a potential customer!

I've got a Game Doctor, and it's probably saved me at least $1,000 since the time I got it.

I also used to work at a Gamestop, and it really bothered me seeing the kind of condition that some things would come in looking like. Before I left, some stores in the district got a water resurfacing machine and we'd take up to $3 off the trade in credit for a game if we'd have to ship it to that store to have it resurfaced. But that's off-topic.

Anyway, when's the last time you cleaned your PS2? It sounds to me like it got some rather large clumps of dust in there, which at high speeds can knock the disc off balance and cause some nasty scratches.

Actually I got the lens replaced around September, and I used a power vaccume on it around December. But all of my other games work fine.

The lens would have nothing to do with it. And as for the cleaning, that was four months ago. If you rent games at all, or borrow games from other friends you need to clean that thing at least once a month. I watch at least three movies a week on my PS2, and I have to clean it every two weeks or I get read errors.

Trust me, I don't rent games for that reason(among others), but I don't think its a clearning issue because all of my other PS1/PS2 games work fine, but if I were to clean it, how would I go about doing it?

I had to exchange FF VIII when I got it because the first disc was scratched up. I'm just thankful it wasn't the fourth disc.

I was much luckier! God's grace. I went to a Gamestop in California, when I was living there, after the GBA Lunar got me interested and bam! Lunar 1 and Lunar 2 in almost perfect condition! It cost 50 dollars each though... It was really hard to find it in stores...Praise God!

Well, any DVD or CD lens cleaner should work nicely. I've got a great one for the PSX that I use in my PS2 called Blaze, and I just pop the thing in and it has a bar graph. I do this twice a month, and boom.... she's a-clean!
