For me, it would be "The Rose".
Here are the lyrics.

Some say love, it is a river,
That drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor,
That leads your soul to bleed,
I say love, it is a flower,
And you, its only seed

It's the heart, afraid of breaking,
That never learns to dance
It's the dream, afraid of waking,
That never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken,
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul, afraid of dying
That never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong

Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love
In the spring becomes the rose

(Note: This song was sung in Japanese in the Studio Ghibli movie "Only Yesterday.")
This song is just so true. That's why I think it's so beautiful.
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. I appointed you to be a prophet of all nations."
--Jeremiah 1:5

If I remember right, Mom said that the first time she heard that song, it was sung by Bette Midler. (I forget who actually wrote it, though. )

I don't know about the most beautiful song but I do know one of the most touching songs that I've ever heard was:

Estrella by BraveSaintSaturn

I write clever words on paper,
I sometimes think I don't believe at all.
I've never felt so fake,
So false, I'm such a lie,
I couldn't even look him in the eyes.
He was twenty five like I was,
But he was deaf and slowly going blind.
He made my faith seem worthless,
The things I hoped were pointless.
And he fought to stay,
But always dreamed that he could leave this place.

The angels wings,
Will cover you tonight.
Hallalujah.
Press your head,
Against the breast of Christ.
Hallalujah.

It made me feel so empty,
Collapsing on some dirty bathroom floor.
And isn't it just like me,
To mourn his passing breath,
When he will never suffer anymore?
Beautiful his pictures,
Fading black and silver.
And I sing of faith,
But his was true and fierce, and I will miss him.

That's a great song, That Dude.

One of the most beautiful songs I've heard-- and is one of my favorites of all time --is a song by Gackt called Dears (Love Letter Version). I might upload it later so people can hear it.

You should post the lyrics with it when you upload the song ShiHi. And sorry ForHim...You've just made an enemy for life. Ok noy really. I just think that is a really annoying song. But if you like it that's fine by me.

Yeah, I will second the dislike for "I Can Only Imgaine" . . . but that's largely because it was all the local station played for a while and I dislike the vocalist's voice.

I do, however, like Beethoven's "Fur Elise", Nobou Uematsu's "One-Winged Angel", and Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle". Lyrics to the latter:

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day 'til eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then
Again, I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you wanna do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I wanna go through time with

If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty except for the memory of how
They were answered by you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you wanna do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I wanna go through time with

Grade-A 200-proof love song right there.

"ain't afraid to die" by Dir en grey. It's not a happy song, but it's sung wonderfully.

I might upload it for you all later. Don't worry, it's clean.

Gackt - Dears (LLV)

English translation is in italics.

furitsuzuku ame no naka de
utsuroge ni sora o miageteita
kagirinaku hirogaru hate ni
jiyuu o motomeru tori no mure ga naiteita

Inside of the continually falling rain
Hollowly, I looked up into the sky
With the ends stretching out into eternity
A flock of birds looking for freedom was crying out

ushinatta egao no kazu dake
kesshite uragiru koto wa dekinai no da to
nandomo sou kokoro de tsubuyaita

Only your lost smiling face
Could never do anything like betray
Over and over I murmured this to my heart

tatoe donna ni kizutsuite mo
dore dake kizutsuku koto ni natte mo
dareni mo boku wa tomerarenai

And no matter how much I've been hurt
And what became the thing that hurts me
I can't stop for anyone

wazuka na hikari o mitsukereba ii
ima no taiyou ga agaranakute mo
"furidashita ame wa itsuka yamu n da ne..."

It's fine if I only find a little bit of light
Even if today's sun doesn't rise
"The falling rain will someday cease, won't it..."

arukitsukareteita kimi wa
te no naka de kieteyuku yume o daiteita

You've gotten tired of walking
In your hand you've held the vanishing dream

kono inochi ga tsukita to shite mo
wasurerarenai taisetsuna koto ga aru
onaji jidai o tomo ni tatakatta koto

And when this life has been exhausted
There's something precious that cannot be forgotten
Our time together that we fought for

tatoe kono koe ga todokanakute mo
nido to ano koro ni modorenakute mo
sakebitsuzukeru boku ga iru

And even when my voice doesn't reach you
Even when we can't return to that time again
I'm here, continuing to cry out to you

dore dake jidai ga nagarete mo
karada o yusaburu omoi no mama ni...
tatakaitsuzuketa akashi wa nokoru kara

Even when those times stream by
Like the feelings that make my body shake...
Because the evidence of our continued fighting remains

daremo ga umaretekita imi o
sagashitsuzuketeiru

Someone continues to search for
The meaning of their birth

tatoe donna ni kizutsuite mo
dore dake kizutsuku koto ni natte mo
dare ni mo boku wa tomerarenai

And no matter how much I've been hurt
And what became the thing that hurts me
I can't stop for anyone

wazuka na hikari o mitsukereba ii
ima wa taiyou ga agarenakute mo
"furidashita ame wa itsuka yamu n da ne..."

It's fine if I only find a little bit of light
Even if today's sun doesn't rise
"The falling rain will someday cease, won't it..."

*has a feeling he is gonna get flamed for liking piller*
I agree with hating I can only imagine also I agree with Rai with one winged angel

Angel in disguise by Piller

Lyrics:
Friday morning when she walked out the door
She couldn't take anymore and so she tried to ignore

Her daddy he wanted to settle the score
From all the little meetings they had had before

All the secrets started taking their toll
Making daddy more bold, but it was bruising her soul

He didn't know that she had already told
Her mother already knows and now the drama unfolds
As she says

My, you’re my angel in disguise
You look at me with patient eyes
My, you’re my angel in disguise
You saved my from that one last cry

It’s Friday evening and he's at it again
Another hour and then all the pressure begins

The phone keeps ringing so he finally gives in
To hear the voice of his wife asking where have you been

He tells her I’ll be home as soon as I can
So tuck the kids into bed ‘cause time has slipped through my hands

A pause and then she says she loves him again
Then it finally sets in that she’s always been

It’s Friday morning and she walked through the door
All of those thoughts from before she no longer ignored

She’s finally home she set her bags on the floor
But her mother wasn't there to hold her hand anymore

She heard her daddy he was calling her name
She went back to his room but he wasn't the same

He said I’m sorry for the tears that you've cried
Will you ever forgive me she said I’ve already tried, as he said

Well, while I wouldn't say it's the most beautiful song ever written in the history of the world, I will say that Sufjan Stevens's "Casimir Pulaski Day" is a really beautiful song, musically and lyrically.

Casimir Pulaski Day
"Golden rod and the 4-H stone
The things I brought you
When I found out you had cancer of the bone

Your father cried on the telephone
And he drove his car to the Navy yard
Just to prove that he was sorry

In the morning through the window shade
When the light pressed up against your shoulder blade
I could see what you were reading

Oh the glory that the lord has made
And the complications you could do without
When I kissed you on the mouth

Tuesday night at the bible study
We lift our hands and pray over your body
But nothing ever happens

I remember at Michael's house
In the living room when you kissed my neck
And I almost touched your blouse

In the morning at the top of the stairs
When your father found out what we did that night
And you told me you were scared

Oh the glory when you ran outside
With your shirt tucked in and your shoes untied
And you told me not to follow you

Sunday night when I cleaned the house
I find the card where you wrote it out
With the pictures of your mother

On the floor at the great divide
With my shirt tucked in and my shoes untied
I am crying in the bathroom

In the morning when you finally go
And the nurse runs in with her head hung low
And the cardinal hits the window

In the morning in the winter shade
On the first of March on the holiday
I thought I saw you breathing

Oh the glory that the lord has made
And the complications when I see his face
In the morning in the window

Oh the glory when he took our place
But he took my shoulders and he shook my face
And he takes and he takes and he takes"

The Beatles' "Yesterday" and "Blue" from Cowboy Bebop are both up there, but I'd have to say that the number one most beautiful song is Johann Pachelbel's "Canon in D major".

Are we judging by the lyrics or the music? My answer would probably be different if I were judging the music by itself, but here is a song that I find moving because of its lyrics:

“The Oceanâ€

Disregarding lyrics, Sigur Ros has some truly beautiful (mostly) instrumental songs, I've been listening to their album Takk almost continuously lately. On a personal level I'd have to add Iron & Wine's Trapeze Swinger or maybe Jennifer Knapp's When Nothing Satisfies. It's so tough, there's so many songs with beautiful lyrics and okay melodies and others with stunning melodies and lame or non-existent lyrics.

In the end I think the instrumentals win out. I've heard so many incredible classical pieces and I'm currently sitting with a haunting piano arrangement of NIN's Hurt on my playlist.

OH I LOVE CANON IN D MAJOR!! thatss an awesome song... here are a couple songs I find especially touching!

the most touching song I have ever heard is definitely "How to save a life" By The fray it is SOOOO GOOD... here are the lyrics

------------------------------------------------------------------

Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

How to save a life
How to save a life

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

How to save a life

----------------------------------------------------------

The second one is "Hurt" By Thousand Foot Krutch... this song always moves me!

----------------------------------------------------------------
Drop the ball, watch it fall far below
Suck you in, hold your breath
The undertow creeps in slow
Everyone owns a gun deep inside
It’s just a matter of how much you let it slide

Drop the ball, watch it fall far below
Suck you in, hold your breath
The undertow creeps in slow
Everyone owns a gun deep inside
It’s just a matter of how much you let it slide

Help me help you they wont be there
Help me help you they won’t see

It hurts when you need me
And I can’t break your fall
It hurts when you can’t see
And it hurts

Drop the switch, scratch the itch, watch it grow
Inch by inch, the cutting board, watch it swing to and fro
Everyone carries one deep inside
It’s just a matter of how much you let it slide

Wash it off, take the loss, let it go
Take it in, drink it up, we can just take it slow
Everyone carries one deep inside
It’s just a matter of how much you let it slide

Help me help you they wont be there
Help me help you they won’t see

It hurts when you need me
And I can’t break your fall
It hurts when you can’t see
And it hurts

It hurts when you need me
And I can’t break your fall
It hurts when you can’t see
And it hurts

And it hurts when you’re lonely
And I’m standing right beside you there
And it hurt when you told me
That you'll try this on your own

Hope you never hurt
Hope you never cry
Hope you never lose your way tonight
Hope you never crumble
Hope you never fall
Hope you never throw away the…

…Drop the ball, watch it fall far below
Suck you in, hold your breath, watch it swing

It hurts when you need me
And I can’t break your fall
It hurts when you can’t see
And it hurts

It hurts when you need me
And I can’t break your fall
It hurts when you can’t see
And it hurts

And it hurts
And it hurts
And it hurts
And it hurts
And it hurts
And it hurts
And it hurts
And it hurts

------------------------------------------------------------

The third would have to be "Looking for angels" by Skillet not much music but the words really touch!

--------------------------------------------------------------

Walk this world alone try to stay on my feet

Sometimes crawl, fall, but I stand up cause I’m afraid to sleep
And open my eyes to a new day, with all new problems 4. and all new pain
All the faces are filled with so much anger
Losing our dignity and hope from fear of danger
After all the wars, after settling the scores, at the break of dawn we will be deaf to the answers

There’s so much bigotry, misunderstanding and fear
With eyes squinted and fists clinched we reach out for what is dear
We want it we want
We want a reason to live
We’re on a pilgrimage
A crusade for hope
Cause in our hearts and minds and souls we know
We need it we need
We need more than this

Chorus:
Going through this life looking for angels
People passing by looking for angels

Walking down the streets looking for angels
Everyone I meet looking for angels

So many nations with so many hungry people
So many homeless scrounging around for dirty needles
On the rise, teen suicide, when we will realize
we’ve been desensitized by the lies of the world
We’re oppressed and impressed by the greedy
Whose hands squeeze the life out of the needy
When will we learn that wars, threats, and regrets are the cause and effect of living in fear

Who can help protect the innocence of our children
stolen on the internet with images they can’t forget
We want it we want
We want a reason to live
We represent a generation that wants to turn back a nation
To let love be our light and salvation
We need it we need

We need more than this
I became a savior to some kids I’ll never meet
Sent a check in the mail to buy them something to eat
What will you do to make a difference, to make a change?

What will you do to help someone along the way?
Just a touch, a smile as you turn the other cheek
Pray for your enemies, humble yourself, love’s staring back at me
In the midst of the most painful faces
Angels show up in the strangest of places
CAA does the FACE!

I believe the most beautiful rock ballads are definitely
  • "Like a Rock"--Bob Seger (aka the official theme for the Chevy pick-up)
  • "Sister Christian"--Night Ranger (come on all you 80's kids, join in: "Motor inn/What's your price per flight/In finding Mr. Right?"
  • "Every Rose Has Its Thorn"--Poison
and of course, what rock ballad list would be complete without (ahem)

[*]"Love Hurts"--Nazareth

That's good to hear--I didn't know there was anyone else here who had heard of The Choir.

(Did anyone listen to the Gackt song I uploaded?)

I did try following your link, but I wasn't able to get a download, which is regrettable; I like Gackt but haven't heard that particular song.
Let others believe in the God who brings men to trial and judges them. I shall cling to the God who resurrects the dead.

I am convinced that many men who preach the gospel and love the Lord are really misunderstood. People make a “profession,â€

mewithoutYou: O Porcupine and In A Sweater Poorly Knit tossup.
With your doubt, all is comfort
We are all as we appear
No more questions left unanswered
No more wonder, no more fear
Nothing is beauty, nothing's feeling
Blood where there once was a soul
So I ask you, prove yourself
Make me believe that you are whole

hey i like mercyme's "i can only imagine" heh though it did get a bit annoying the year they put it on every 5 minutes on every radio station

i like all of this artists' songs but this one is one of my favourites

Where You Want To Be - Darren Hayes

Hey there stranger
Do you remember?
You were a part of my life
Early December
Think I remember?
Sentiment cuts like a knife
The seasons are changing
Life's rearranging
Full of could've dones
Would've beens
It's all your fault
And where have you been
And how time goes
And now I dont even know
How to fill in the spaces
of the love you erased in my life

Are you where you want to be?
Did you get there easily?
Did they make you sacrifice?
Did you make a sharp left
When you should've turned right?
Are you where you want to be?
Did you sell off all of your gold
Did you trade it in?
Did you wait for love
Or settle for somebody to hold?

And barely symphonic
But strangely ironic
Moments contained in one glance
Oh how I adored you
But now I'm ignored by you
No evidence of romance
And now it's vaguely familiar
I think I remember sharing every single intimacy
It doesn't seem so strange to me that we barely entertained
Even the politest of phrases
But sometimes at night
I conjure you up in my mind

Are you where you want to be?
Did you get there easily?
Did they make you sacrifice?
Did you make a sharp left
When you should've turned right?
Are you where you want to be?
Did you sell off all of your gold
Did you trade it in?
Did you wait for love
Or settle for somebody to hold?

While I was busy
Perfecting the art
Of deflecting compliments
I took it too far
And I let a ripple run right through my heart
Of battle stations we're building
You and I just grew apart
We grow apart

While I decided
To make everyone else happy
I just put aside
My foolish pride
I guess I denied
My own desire
I was too busy pleasing
To ever be pleased
I forgot how to breathe
Or question anything
Or ask why?
Am I?

Am I where I want to be?
Did I get here easily?
Did I make a sacrifice?
Did I take a sharp left
When I should've turned right?
Am I where I want to be?
Can I sell of all of my gold?
Can I trade it in?
Will I wait for Love
Or settle for somebody to hold

I'd settle for somebody to hold now

You know that I've been up and I've been down
I've been picked up and spun around
I'd do it all again
If I could just have somebody to hold now
I just need somebody to hold me now
Could somebody hold me now?
I just want somebody to hold me now
I'd do it all again

My other fav song lyrics would prob be:

"Every Little Thing" - Dishwalla

Let me in
to see you in the morning light
to get me on and all along the tears they come
see all come
I want you to believe in life
but I get the strangest feeling that you've gone away
will you find out who you are too late to change?
I wish I could be
every little thing you wanted
all the time
I wish I could be
every little thing you wanted
all the time
some times

lift me up
just lift me up don't make a sound
and let me hold you up before you hit the Ground
see all come
you say your all right
but I get the strangest feeling
that you've gone away- you've gone away
and will you find out who you are too late to change?

I wish I could be
every little thing you wanted
all the time
I wish I could be
every little thing you wanted
all the time
some times

Don't give me up
don't give me up tonight
or soon nothing will be right at all
salvation
will you find out who you are too late to change?

I wish I could be
every little thing you wanted

Chopin's Nocturne in E Minor (I think that was the name). Of course there are others, but this is one that comes to mind now.
