I'd pick Reepicheep. I like how he's so small, but so brave and loyal. Plus the scene where he's playing chess with Lucy in Voyage of the Dawn Treader is pretty funny.

But I don't see the fuss. Some people just can't tolerate that C.S. was using her character to illustrate that even people of faith can fall away from God if they don't keep trusting in Him. It's there for a reason.
