OFFICIAL Homestar Runner Thread

Postby Nate » Wed Nov 01, 2006 11:57 am

I've been meaning to start this one for a long time, but always forgot. Well, I'm not forgetting today. A lot of us here love Homestar, but we don't talk about it a lot. I'm changing that. This is the official thread for us to talk about the newest happenings on the Homestar Runner website, how we liked the most recent offerings, and the like. Whenever Homestar Runner updates, post it here! Let's keep this thread alive!

Anyway, with that said, the Halloween toon! I thought this one was great. I actually ended up recognizing quite a few of the costumes: Strong Mad, Homsar, Homestar, Bubs, and of course The Cheat. It was funny to see the Goblin hanging out in summer gear too. XD And of course, Bubs was great, as always. But my favorite part by far had to be Coach Z trying to imitate crickets.

I only recognised the Cheat, Strong Sad and Marzipan's Costumes. I see Coach Z is supposed to be Queen Latifah - if I had to think I'd have said Imelda Marcos.

I only recognized Bubs' costume. It's funny because they used to show Home Movies (a show) on Cartoon Network during the day.

By the way, I received my copy of "Everything Else Vol. 2" in the mail yesterday. I've had a chance to check it out, and here's the high points:

THE GOOD
Commentary. Practically EVERY toon has commentary from Mike and Matt, sometimes in character, just like on the Strong Bad email DVDs.

A new toon, called "Why Only One Girl?" that explains why Marzipan is the only female character. All I will say is, "WHY, GANONDORF, WHY?!"

The Cheat Commandos Blue Laserdisc Challenge game. Not very complex, but fun nonetheless.

The two original books, "Strongest Man in the World Contest" and "Where My Hat Is At" are read out loud in a goofy voice.

It has Marshmallow's Last Stand and Jumping Jack Contest, two of the earliest toons that aren't available on the site proper. Which brings us to...

THE BAD
In the original Marshmallow's Last Stand, when Strong Bad and Homestar eyeballed each other, the theme from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly played. Whether for copyright reasons or they felt they had grown out of it, though, the audio was replaced for the DVD version of the toon. Unfortunately, their changing of the audio results in the audio syncing being MURDERED. The audio at that point begins to lead the video by about three seconds...which is frustrating when you hear the bomb on Strong Bad's head exploding before it even gets latched onto his head.

So yeah. Definitely worth the 12 bucks I spent on it.

Update: New Fan Costumes!

Oh MAN. This was the most hilarious Fan Costumes yet. XD;; Highlights for me:

"What an uncreepy Samaritan!"

The Cheat's hot mom.

"Did you eat Luigi?"

The whole dialogue for the Marshie costume.

"Coach Z, you need to be in jail...somehow...for this."

My rating: 9/10

Hmmm. I see there's a new Strongbad E-mail, but I keep getting 404'd when I click on the main menu's link. Strange.

Odd. I saw it earlier today. It was pretty good.

Some parts were great, but others were meh. I was hoping it would be a lot better than it was given the subject matter. Homestar reciting Coulomb's Law was great (CORRECTLY too), and him stuck in the water cooler. XD Also nice to see Limozeen "But they're in SPACE!" again.

All in all, I give it a 6.5 out of 10.

It was amusing, yes (I've seen it in the meantime) but they've had better. Overall, the E-mails have dropped in quality since they hit 150, methinks. There were good ones, though, like the Cliffhangers and Retirement.

Update! A Thanksgiving toon...that's also a Cheat Commandos toon!

Personally, I loved this. But I may be a bit biased, since the Cheat Commandos are my favorite things on the site. XD Anyway, I thought it was great, and Ripberger finally got a speaking part. Also, Mike and Matt had mentioned on the commentary of the second DVD about the cameras placed everywhere in cartoons like GI Joe and stuff. This cartoon finally explains it in a hilarious way. XD

9 out of 10 from me, because the beginning is admittedly a bit slow.

The Cheat Commandos Thanksgiving toon was cute, but not as good as I'd hoped.

I think my favorite Holiday toons are the Halloween ones. And while on that subject, my favorite Halloween ones are Halloween Potion-Ma-Jig and Halloween Fairstival. Bobbing for turduckens...comedy gold.

*blows dust off thread*

Finally! An update! New Strong Bad email this week, chronicling Strong Bad's adventures in trying to find a new computer chair. A pretty solid email all around, in my opinion. Especially the Homestar "chair." XD

I give it a 7/10.

Another Monday brings us a new Strong Bad Email!

This one was great, hands down. It is SO true. I hate those stupid things that play crappy music when you walk by. And the whole "It ceases to be useful as soon as you open it!" thing was gold.

9/10. Awesome email.
