Manhwa!

Postby Ichigo_89 » Wed Nov 15, 2006 9:48 pm

So basically they're Korean comics and are read western style. They're usually more obscure compared to the mainstream shonenjump manga that's taking over most manga sections. But I'm starting to get into them. Really detailed art, and it's just done differently than manga.

It's a nice change of pace, but onto the point of this thread. Basically who else is liking the Manhwa stuff and what series have u read or like? Me, I just picked up "Banya:The Explosive Deliveryman" today and was quite impressed. (I'd recommend it if some violence and language doesn't bother you)

I've been a big Ragnarok: Into the Abyss fan, but Lee Myung-Jin halted it after Volume 11 I think to focus more on the game development :\

I actually like that style of art more than most manga styles, too :D

"God the great Creator of all things doth uphold, direct, dispose, and govern all creatures, actions, and things, from the greatest even to the least, by His most wise and holy providence, according to His infallible foreknowledge and the free and immutable counsel of His own will, to the praise of the glory of His wisdom, power, justice, goodness, and mercy."

"All of Christian life is ceaseless worship of God the Father, through the mediatorship of God the Son, by the indwelling power of God the Spirit, doing what God commands in Scripture, not doing what God forbids in Scripture, in culturally contextualized ways, for the furtherance of the Gospel, when both gathered for adoration, and scattered for action, in joyous response to God's glorious grace."
- Mark Driscoll

"Believers do not pray with the view of informing God about things unknown to Him, or of exciting Him to do His duty, or of urging Him as though He were reluctant. On the contrary, they pray in order that they may arouse themselves to seek Him, that they may exercise their faith in meditating on His promises, that they may relieve themselves from their anxieties by pouring them into His bosom; in a word, that they may declare that from Him alone they hope and expect, both for themselves and for others, all good things."

I really like the Korean artwork as well. I remember flipping through Island and being highly impressed with the quality of the work, though, I should note that it's pretty violent. I'll try and check out Banya some time.

It's hit and miss with the manhwa for me. Though I really enjoyed Demon Dairy. It was just so funny.

I really liked this old manwha called Unplugged Boy. It was so funny and I just wanted to know what happened. Otherwise, manwha can sometimes be really skewered in anatomy. 6_9;

Why the heck is it spelled "manwha" when it's pronounced "mahn-a"

I never understood it. "Mahn-a" means cartoon, where as "Mahn-a chek" means "Cartoon book" aka "Comic" or "Manga"

Anyway, my dad would read the "mahn-a" strips in our korean newspapers.

Whoops, manhwa, not manwha.

만화 : Isn't it H-oa? So it sounds like a wuh sound?

Maybe I'm wrong then? I don't know. Koreans pronounce things so differently when they say stuff quickly.

And that is "Hwa" so what you wrote is pronounced "man-hwa" (with the H being pronounced)
