A place for Ranmaniacs to talk about the anime and manga. Me? I just started reading the manga my libary carries. So far I've read 1,3,6 and 18.

Which do you prefer? Myself, I tend to get more out of the anime than the manga, although there are a lot of stories in the manga that never made it into the anime.

Ah, the manga all the way here. But that could be partially because I really dislike the Ranma dub. ^^; Gotta love that Mousse...

Why, what's wrong with the dub? I was bummed when they lost Sarah Strange (the new Ranma never really did it for me), but I thought that Myriam Sirois was a bang-up Akane, and I really liked Kelly Sheridan's Ukyoo. Overall, I thought the Ranma dub as dubs go was very good all in all, with only minor nitpicky things to complain about.

^^ The Vision of Escaflowne dub really didn't give me a good first impression of Kelly Sheridan (her Hitomi was just...urgh...), and I suppose that carried over when I watched Ranma and instantly jumped up and said "Oh no, she's Ukyou, too?!" *shrugs* And Ranma and Ryouga's voices just seemed a bit too...'surfer dude'-ish for my tastes.

Alas, I haven't seen, er, heard Sheridan in anything else, so I couldn't judge (although that might be her in the Boys Over Flowers preview ... can't really tell, anyone know?). The later Ranma (Richard Ian Cox from 'Inu-Yasha') was worse in the 'surfer d00d' department ... which box sets do you have/are you referring to?

I just remembered a scene from OAV #2:

Ryoga: "Whaat?! I don't remember a wall being here!"
Mousse: *Quack!*
Kasumi: "What's that, Mr. Duck? ... Oh!"
Mousse: *flying and pointing with his bill*
Ryoga: "That's right! With a duck's eye view, we'll be there in no time!"
Kasumi: "My, what a clever duck!"
Ryoga: "Bakusai tenketsu! ... " *BOOM* "Shall we go?"
Kasumi: "Uh, yes ... Excuse us."
Old Man Whose Garden Wall Ryoga Just Destroyed: "Uh, sure, no problem."

It is indeed Sheridan in Boys Over Flowers. Several of the Ranma VAs are in that series. I agree with shooraijin, I thought overall the dub for Ranma 1/2 was above average for it's time and still remains one of the better ones out there. I also prefer the anime over the manga although I collect both.

I keep hearing a warning from another guy I know on a forum who says the first boxset of ranma 1/2 is full of nudity. Now I've read the Happosai awaking manga and the number 1 so is there any more then those.

Yeah, Ted Cole did a great Kuno. I can't imagine any other voice for that so-and-so.

Well, how would you describe it. Think the Wicked Witch of the West, saying "ohhoho" instead of "ehhehe", make it a higher pitched, more singy, less nasal, and you may have a close approximation of Kodachi's laugh.

Teryl Rothery did a good approximation (the VAs after her were less adept at this). But it is, without question, the most annoying, teeth-on-edge-grating, shrieking-and-crowing laugh ever in anime. :wow!:
