OK. Allow me to explain my situation. :?:
First, I have no money for anime DVDs or mangas. Because I don't have cable, the only animes I have access to are those on FoxBox every Saturday, which are sometimes decent but not the best :shake: . There are mangas at our library, but only Cowboy Bebop (original and shooting star), Chobits (which I haven't read), and some other very questionable ones.
When I'm at a hotel or someone's house, I try to catch some anime on Toonami or the such, but me and my 4-year old brother are the only ones in my family who like it. My other brother and sister think anime is stupid and my parents just think it's wierd.
This summer, however, I will hopefully have a job and possibly be able to rent/buy DVDs (after I get a computer with a DVD player :brow: ) and mangas.
Still, I don't want to end up getting something that I might not like. I have a very limited knowledge on alot of animes, but I have heard of many.

So, could someone out there tell me about these animes/mangas listed below. These are ones I've heard of and am curious to them, but know almost nothing about.
-Inu Yasha (absolutely no clue about it)
-Trigun (absolutely no clue about it)
-Escafalowe (big knight things, no clue about this either)
-Naruto (something to do with ninjas, that's all I know)
-.hack //twilight (I've seen all of //sign)
-Jing: King of Bandits (or whatever the name is; again, no clue)

Dang. There were alot more I thought about, but I forgot 'em. I'll post them later. Anyways, if you can tell me about these or give suggestions to some I might like, that'd be a big help. Movie suggestions are good to.
I like almost anything that's got alot of action and a good story. Preferably fantasy or sci-fi works. And something a guy would like, of course  .

Can't help you with the animes you listed but Final Fantasy Unlimited is good for sci-fi. I can't remember what anime CN plays right now other than Rurouni Kenshin. Could you name off anime shows you enjoy so I have a better idea of what you're interested in? Also, check out the CAA reviews for shows you might like.

<<-Trigun (absolutely no clue about it)>>
Thou hath cometh to the right place. ^^ Muhahaha...ahem. Trigun is...is...oh, here's a quote from my site.

"Trigun is the story of a man called Vash the Stampede on a desert planet named Gunsmoke. In the far future, the human race has practically ruined Earth, so, in order to continue the species, they send ships carrying thousands of people in cold-sleep to Gunsmoke, under the name "Project S.E.E.D.S." That was one hundred and fifty years ago. Rumored to have destroyed Third City July, Vash the Stampede is the most feared outlaw under the two suns and five moons, and he has a sixty billion double dollar bounty on his head that everyone wants. However, the trail leads the would-be bounty hunters to a skinny blonde man with a fondness for doughnuts. Could this really be the legendary Vash the Stampede?
The answer, if you haven't figured it out yet, is yes. With the insurance girls Millie Thompson and Meryl Stryfe constantly on his tail and a good buddy (and rival?) in Nicholas D. Wolfwood, Vash the Stampede is the main character of a twenty-six episode anime produced by MADHOUSE (of Ninja Scroll fame) and a on-going manga by manga-ka Yasuhiro Nightow (Gungrave) that has twelve tankubon to date."

I recommend the manga more so than the anime, but either way, it's really good.
Think happy thoughts.

I haven't seen any of the titles you mentioned (I'm more of a shoujo fan myself(, but I think we have a review for several of those titles in our review section. You should check it out! :thumb:
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Inu Yasha (absolutely no clue about it)
-Trigun (absolutely no clue about it)
-Escafalowe (big knight things, no clue about this either)
-Naruto (something to do with ninjas, that's all I know)
-.hack //twilight (I've seen all of //sign)
-Jing: King of Bandits (or whatever the name is; again, no clue)

Inu Yasha: It is a long series about a half dog demon, and this girl he befriend by the name of Kagome. They are in search of this sacred Jewel Shard which broke..

Pros: Its a pretty funny anime with a lot of action..
Cons: The main chara is a demon, a lot of japanese mythology, reincarnation is a big plot, and there are a lot of inuendos..

I am not a huge fan of this series.. but a lot of ppl are..

Escaflowne: (i have only seen this once... so i will try my best to summarize on it.)

this girl somehow gets sucked into this other world with a lot of odd creatures where she meets this guy by the name of Van. This guy has a huge mecha by the name of escaflowne.. and they and the ppl they meet fight against the crazy bad guys.. (and i do mean crazy..)

(like i said.. i dont remember a lot about this anime.. i watched the entire series in one night so a lot was lost in the memory dept.)

Pros: This series is AWESOME even though its really old! I really like it!!
Cons: however, there is use of the tarot cards and magic..

but if you can look past that.. than its a really great series with a lot of action!!

I havent seen Naruto..

.Hack// Legend of the Twighlight (manga and Anime)

Manga: 3 volumes long, and its very different from the anime it spawned..It follows two twins by the names of Shugo and Rena, and their adventures in THE WORLD
Pros: Its a very light manga compared to sign
Cons: There is some nudity.. (especially in the full cover pin up in vol one, and again in vol 3 in a chapter page..which really ticked me off.. the kids are only in Jr. HIGH!!!

Anime: Same characters in the Manga only a different story arc.. (wont ruin if for you..)

Pros: Its a cute anime, and one that i let my 8 year old sister watch.. and she enjoyed it.. I loved the english as well as teh Japanese cast! Its also pretty funny and the songs are awesome!!
Cons: In the first episode the star of the show, shugo accidently runs into some ladies.. *ahem..* chest and.. yah.. its weird..but is really the only problem that I had..

King of Bandits Jing (manga)
This was the very first manga i owned!! I only have the first two in the series, and if you like sketchy art than this will be good for you.. This manga was ok.. but i got kinda lost in the artwork.. (there is hardly any shading, and the lines are so sketchy its kinda hard to tell what is goin on..)
Pros: Its a light manga.. with comedy and action
Cons: I haven't been able to find a definate story in it..
And there is some ineuendo.. ...

Now for suggestions!!
RUROUNI KENSHIN! Get it!! its cheaper than a lot of manga out there!! The anime is a must as well..

Fruits Basket!: Oh yesh!! This series is AWESOME!! Both anime and Manga are available.. ^_^

Haibane Renmei!

Full Metal Alchemist!!: There is a lot of science in here.. and violence.. but it is still a pretty good show!

As said before there is an excellent review place for the ones i listed.. but yesh.. those are highly recommended by me!

Summary of Escaflowne

Oh, I forgot something. The only manga that has been release here in the states is not even worth the money that the paper is printed on. Escaflowne was one of the frist to be an anime first and then manga, which is really the other way around most of the time. The anime is clean no nudity and such, but there is blood, but nothing really bad in it. But in the manga that you can get here in the states, has nudity and a bit more blood then what was showed in anime from what I have seen of the vols.

i second the recommendations for Rurouni Kenshin (aka samurai x), there are also movies available to rent from blockbuster (although i'm not a big fan of blockbuster), i do recommend samurai x: reflection, it's not just a hack and slash flick, it actually has a very good plot to it, but i would recommend reading the manga or watching the anime before watching reflection 'cus it's just that, a reflection on the things that happened at earlier points in the story, trigun is also very good, especially if you like scifi westerns

just to warn you, i've seen .hack//twilight and .hack//sign is much better plotwise, there is a lil' more action in twilight, but not enough to make up the difference for the lame plot and rather risque' parts that always annoy me

my personal recommendation
gundam wing - great series, not too long, plus there's a really good movie to tie up all the loose ends that takes place one year after the end of the series

second warning
most of the anime that has been suggested or discussed might be either over the head or too violent for your lil' bro, keep in mind that whatever he sees he's gonna try to copy in one form or an other, and let's face it, we don't want you getting banned from anime or manga on account of your lil' bro (i know how it goes, i got a 7 month old lil' bro myself), just to give you a heads up, the only two that's not bloody, or has a lot of cussing that i know of is the cartoon network (edited) rurouni kenshin and gundam wing, even in the dvd version of the g/w movie i own there's not even blood that i recall
'nuff said

Thanks for the help. A few of you mentioned Rurouni Kenshin, but none of you really told me what it's about. A little filler on it would be appreciated.
I was at Walden Books today and got to see the mangas. I'm thinkin' Inu Yasha is out. Sorry if any of you like it, but I don't think it's my style. I started readin' Naruto and got to the beginning of the second one. Yeah, I think I like it now.
I have noticed the risque scenes in //twilight. I'm thinkin' //sign was better, so I'll probably avoid that.
Thanks AngelSakura for telling me about TriGun. I think that's one I'll definitely look for.

Thanks for reminding me of that fact, Yeshua-Knight. There've been...incidents before... I might look for Gundam Wing. It looked cool from the few episodes I've seen.
I'm still undecided on Escafalowne. The reason I wondered about it was the big knight mechs. They just looked so freakin' awesome. I least I know what it's about, so thanks!
Also, ChristianRonin, your suggestions sounded interesting, but I don't know anything about Fruit Basket, Haibane Renmei, or Full Metal Alchemist. Please explain them to me!
I guess I should go check the Reviews. That'll probably do me some good.

*laughs manically* for Rurouni kenshin, you my friend have come to the right place, as well as for the others you have asked about..

Image Rurouni Kenshin: (this is a must for any action fan!) *clears throat* Long ago, in 19th Century Japan, there lived a man slayer who assinated many with his bloodied sword, many who feared or respected him called him "Hitokiri Battousai" or "Man Slayer" But, when the Revolution (of Japan) ended. This manslayer disappeared...
10 Years later in the 11 year of the Meiji (1878 i think..) a wanderer is seen by a young assistant master of the Kamiya Kasshin Style, Kaoru Kamiya, she sees him and thinks he is this manslayer known as the Battousai and attacks him.. thus, The story of Action/ comedy/romance, and drama begins!
Kenshin (the wanderer that Kaoru Meets) really is the Battousai, but he made a vow NEVER to kill again, however, this vow is always challenged by a lot of bad guys who want this legend dead. Will Kenshin be able to keep this vow? Or will the villians of his time cause him to kill once again? HAH! I am not telling you!! MWAHAHAHAH! But seriously, this series has a few cuss words, but not so much that it ruins the story, i dont remember a lot of nudity (if any) However there is a lot of violence, and some blood.. (especially toward the middle of the anime series..) BUT ITS AWESOME and my FAVORITE anime/manga!

Image Fruits basket: ah yes.. Fruba.. *sigh* this is a good series! It is about a family who are cursed. The curse is if they get too emotionally stressed, or hugged by the opposite gender, they turn into animals of the Zodiac. The Main Characters are: Yuki, (a young man about the age of 16, who is cursed by the rat, Kyo, who is about the same age who is cursed by the cat (to be explained in the series) and Tohru Honda (a girl who isn't cursed but finds great friendship with the Cursed family, the Sohmas.
This series is really really sweet! and it is highly recommended..

Image Haibane Renmei: I havent seen this entire series, but it is about a strange race, who look a lot like angels, but really aren't. anyways, They are forced to stay in this town. This anime is pretty deep, and pretty serious.. from what i have seen... and there isnt a lot of action.. But for a relaxing anime, i would say this is perfect!

Image Full Metal Alchemist: This story is an odd one.. It follows the story of two brothers, Edward Elrich and his younger Brother Alphonse (al) These two are pretty close and they should be! As they were growing up they learned the art of alchemy, (which is a science not a witchcraft) anyways, this is changing one state of matter into another.. (lead into Gold stuff like that) and it was a real princlipal back during the middle ages. Anyways, it take place in the early 1900's. It follows the story of these two bros whose mother died, and they try to bring her back to life with alchemy.. only it didn't work and they both lost something.. but i wont tell you what!! U will hafta find out!! Its a good series! but sometimes it has cusswords and Ed seems to be angry with God.. but

ya check the reviews for more info!!

I'm still undecided on Escafalowne. The reason I wondered about it was the big knight mechs.

Well, Escaflowne is not a full Mech story. Its a little bit of big mechs fighting with swords, people fighting with swords in a war and part love story.

The main hero is the girl name Hitomi.

Well this is a little late, but When I read that you wanted to know about Jing the Bandit King back at the begining of this thread, I just had to put my two cents in. ^_^ it's a great anime, the animation is beautiful and I never could get enough of it. The strange world he's in is just amazing, I love the unique character designs. Anyway.... Basically it's the story of the worlds greatest thief, it said he could steal the stars if he wanted to, BUT from what I could see this didn't make him a bad guy like you'd think. It seemed like whenever he set his sights on a target it always seemed to help people in the end some how. In one episode he doesn't get to steal his target (it's too big...) but he does give the girl a new sense of hope.
I don't really want to spoil anything but if you want to know more let me know... cause I know how hard it is to get info on this anime...

but I should say that the manga really disapointed me... it really didn't have a plot and Jing was bad tempered and crude.... and there were little details everywhere that irritated me... I tend to pay attention to little details in the backgrounds and such of mangas... and some of the stuff was... well sacreligious at times... so I stopped getting the books. (it almost ruined the anime for me too.... but the Anime is COMPLETELY different. and I still like it very much. and maybe after the rest of the manga is out things will actually work out to be the same as the anime. I can only hope.)
Well, I hope I didn't confuse you >.< and sorry It took so long for me to say something... ^_^

Myoti wrote:So, could someone out there tell me about these animes/mangas listed below. These are ones I've heard of and am curious to them, but know almost nothing about.
-Inu Yasha (absolutely no clue about it)
-Trigun (absolutely no clue about it)
-Escafalowe (big knight things, no clue about this either)

-InuYasha is an excellent anime. Long at 167 episodes, but more than worth watching (I've seen 95 eps so far, and 2 movies). It's about a teenage girl named Kagome who is sent through time to a feudal era, where she meets a man who is half-youkai, half-human. When the Shikon no Tama (Jewel of Four Souls), a sacred jewel that gives the user tremendous power, is broken and scattered all over Japan, it's up to them to retrieve all the pieces before they fall into the wrong hands. The series is plentiful in comedy, romance, drama and action alike. As for bad content, so far there is pretty much nothing for nudity, and when there is any it doesn't show anything objectional really. There is a good deal of violence but it doesn't hurt the series. The worst is just that there's a good deal of blood. But nothing much more than that. I don't know how much bad language is in the dub (I only watch the sub), but InuYasha has a filthy mouth. The subtitles usually don't read as much language but if you understand words like "kuso" and "chikusho" you know it's cursing. The only part that is really bothersome content-wise I think is the bad religion. Don't be fooled by the common translation of InuYasha, Sesshoumaru and many others being "demons". I'll clear this one up right now: they're not demons, they're youkai (mythical Japanese creatures). The series sometimes does have actual demons, but they are always evil, and they don't appear often. There is also some witchcraft, but again, it's mostly on the evil side. Just be aware that the series has definite involvement with Japanese religion. The origin of the Shikon no Tama, for example, is definitely full of false religion. But while you should be aware of this sort of stuff, it isn't enough to ruin the show. This is one of my all time favorite series and I highly recommend it.
-Trigun is another fantastic anime, and is actually very clean. The violence is less than InuYasha, as is the cursing, and there is no nudity or bad religion from what I can recall. The series has a great story and is very entertaining. Plenty of humor (Vash is one of anime's funniest characters hands down), action, and drama. Also, this is one of the few anime that really seem to support Christianity. You'll see what I mean when you watch it (especially by the later parts of the series). Another anime I highly recommend.
-I have never seen Escaflowne, but this is one I choose to stay away from. Read the review here to see why. http://www.christiananime.net/reviews.php?display=87

Well, you've been posting on here, so I guess I should say something or another...

I now own two mangas, the first Full Metal Alchemist and the first Naruto, both of which I really like. :) But now I'm broke... :(

I have seen Trigun (only the first ten episodes), but I really love it, especially Vash, that guy is just a trip. I won't see any more for awhile till I get my own DVD player (on PC). The reason being is my Blockbuster only has DVDs for it (and most of the animes) and the only DVD player in my house is in the living room. So, it's not exactly something I want my family to be looking at. Not just the language and all, but I'm like the only one in my house that really likes anime and they seem to enjoy taunting my shows and asking stupid question about them. XP

I looked at the Jing manga at my bookstore and thought it looked interesting, (reminded me of "The Nightmare Before Christmas") but thanks for warning me about it, dragonnova.

I'm still kinda undecisive about whether to get into Inu Yasha. It's not really the religious parts about it, it's just that the art style doesn't quite look like the kind I like. Then again, I could be wrong. Who knows?

Also, can someone tell me about "Spirited Away"? I've wondered about it and it's like the only VHS anime at Blockbuster. I tried checking the Reviews, but they weren't working at the time...
