Cowboy Bebop: The Movie

Postby Michael » Sun Aug 31, 2003 8:49 pm

I got home from Wal-Mart. I went to my PS2. I put in CB. And immediatly skipped to the last fight scene.

(End silliness) :P

Animation:
Good. Really good. (It's a movie after all) Characters are kinda realistic, but not to realistic. Enviroments are amazing and dazzling, but also gritty and down to earth.
10/10

Dubbing:
You get all the original english cast, so you may like it or not. Personally: I thought it was pretty good.
7/10

Story:
The whole bio-terrorist threat keeps you interested, but it's not real deep. There's more of a focus on the relationships between Vincent and Electra and Spike trying to figure out what to do. It might be a little to symbolic and confusing for newbs to Bebop. It's better if you've seen the series really.
7/10

Booty kickin' scenes
:thumb: Really great. Realistic, but looks cool. Vincent Vs. Spike fights are better than any other fights in the series. An that's something special.
10/10

Stuff you (or your kids) might not like:
There is fanservice. You won't see nipples; but you see everything else.
This isn't Trigun or Rurouni Kenshin either: Both bad guys and good guys have no qaulms about killing each other. With lots of blood gushing out of random wounds.
Aliens is worse

Overall
Excellent as an Anime movie. Even better if your a fan.
9/10

This's unfinished

As a moderate CB newbie, I quite liked it. I'm going to go through oldphil/Eire's collection of CB before I go invest significantly in it, but my taste with the movie and the few episodes I've seen are intriguing. It has a nice balance of comic touches plus action and a slick premise.

Hmm... CB is great, but it's not very Japanese as anime goes... Same with "Macross Plus" these anime are a bit more towards the "American Big Budget Action Flick" than what I like in my anime, but hey... They are great anime, though.

Be warned that this "whole shabang" is on bootleg fansubbed DVDs and is not the official release. The official release (available at places like amazon.com, Best Buy, and Suncoast) may cost more, but you get an excellent dub with great VAs like David Lucas and Wendee Lee. Bootlegs are usually of inferior quality and don't usually have English dubs. You aren't stealing when you get the official release either. If you buy this "whole shabang", you are supporting bootlegs of lincensed series.

I love what I have seen of this series on Cartoon Network and the movie when I rented it from Blockbuster. Though I loved the movie, I do admit that it was like a long episode of the series. However, I didn't mind at all becuase the series rocks.

As far as fanserivce goes, there is the scene where Faye's shirt gets cut opened that has some near, but not quite top nudity. IMO, it's about the same as the TV series.

(No CAA does not endorse Animeniacs, this is my own personal feelings and facts about the anime that I bought from Animeniacs website.)
Well, to be honost I said that wrong...reading it now it looks like I was talking about the movie and the series, the "whole shabang" I was talking about was the series. Which I did purchase from Animeniacs. The movie I bought at Bestbuy. As for the VA's the series has the same as the movie...and as for quality I won't lie there is a very very slight quality loss from animeniacs copy to a copy that you would spend...70 bucks more on at say Best Buy or somewhere else. Too each his own I suppose. As for fanservice...there is a few scenes in the series and movie...movie the ones I think of are a shower scene where you see Fayes outline..the shirt scene...the series....theres the whole man with breasts thing...that was about the worst in the series...nothing too horrible really.

Ed didn't have enough screen time in the movie. :shady:

I bought the Sony "mainstream" CB Movie DVD at Target for $19. I thought it was a good deal, had lots of extras, and was very well-produced. I'm certainly willing to pay extra for quality, and this seemed worth the (very minor) added expense.

You heard wrong. The dub is excellent IMO. I could have done without the s words, but the acting and script for the dub are great. It's the same great cast as the TV series and the new characters have excellent voices.

There is only one official DVD version of the CB movie in the US, the other versions are bootlegs and not recommended.

I agree with BrianC here -- the dub was quite good, and the English actors are obviously very comfortable in their roles and come across very, very well.

As stated, there will be some content, but as a self contained movie AS WELL as a Bebop movie this is a great piece to watch.

I'm not the ultra fan of the series that some people are (It's plot comes off as rather weak and disappointing IMHO, but everything else about the series is the reason I'll watch it again, it's just plain entertaining.), but I utterly love this movie.

As for to americanized, I don't think there's anything wrong with a little american action movie influence if it can create something like this. (Take the best elements of both shores and put them together) Besides, Bebop as a whole has had an American feel to it anyway...that's a small reason as to why it's so popular here.

I agree Bebop is really has an American feel, with references to Beatles songs and action movies, etc. etc.

I've a huge fan of this show, it's by far my favorite. I was happy to have the movie, I saw it over a year ago on a bootleg tape with teeny weeny subtitles. Anywho I think the movie was well done, I personally like the American dub, Spike's VA replacement sounded remarkably like David Lucas. I personally think the sub just sounds real deadpan.
Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away.
