I got into anime when I was 11 years old. I don't think much about my life was changed, since I was a nerd who was made fun of all the time, and I'm still a nerd who is made fun of all the time. The only real difference between now and then is that I don't care if people make fun of me anime. I'm pretty sure anime had little to do with that.

I guess since I was into Voltron when I was a kid and Superbook and Flying House, there was no life for me before anime.

Before I was into anime? Well I liked the Hong Kong Film Noir, read a lot of bad fantasy novels, was into South Park and tried to study theology.

Now that I'm out of anime, I find I have more time and more money than I had before to study theology and start dabbling in Biblical languages

Before I became an anime/manga fan, I was a "funny animal" cartoons/comics fan and I still am. Actually, I was watching anime before I knew what anime was.

Life before anime....yeah it's NOW! lol I'm not into much anime but im looking at getting into some of it lol my friend told me to come here and right now im hanging out mostly in the music forum
i remember i used to watch a couple shows like gundam wing and ronin warriors when i was younger and ive read a couple random mangas like deathnote and some other random ones but that's about it lol so you guys get to see me really get into anime hopefully

Way back in the 70's when I wore corduroy an polyester (hey my mom picked out my clothes back then...don't laugh) I can still remember enjoying Speed Racer, Star Blazers, Battle of the Planets and Robotech. These were my favorites above bugs, daffy and the rest. I didn't know then that it was Anime or even Japanimation (pardon my language) as they called it before the age of Anime enightenment; I just knew I liked it. My friends and I even played "Battle of the Planets" all the time (I was always Mark [Ken]). I remember thinking Spritle and ChimChim were really funny. And I was in awe of fighterjets that could become battle robots (even before Starscream) as I watched Robotech (Sorry Macross for the purists). So even though I may be one of the "senior" members. I don't recall a time in my life when I wasn't influenced by anime.

Until Johnyouth pointed it out, I hadn't realized that yes, yes I was into anime all my life. I grew up on Robotech, speed racer and reruns of something I would later figureout was probably astroboy. I caught a few other snipets of things and eventually figured out what "anime" was back in HS.

I guess I can't really remeber much before, but I was (like TG) a nerd that got made fun of all the time. Come to think of it, I guess I still am, but it stopped bothering me after college.

Seriously though, I did cowgirl stuff on my family's ranch, read LOTS of books, and was the book-smart-socially-dumb kid that people asked for help with homework but otherwise picked on. I did watch cartoons - Looney Toons, Scooby Doo, Disney stuff. I do vaguely recall watching a little Sailor Moon, G-Force, and Speed Racer, but those don't really count, as I had no clue that they were anime.

Me getting over my social outcast angst happened about the same time that I discovered anime, neither affected the other though; that was about 4 or 5 years ago.

I was going about my business D&D and Star Wars, books stacked on books, wrote pages upon pages then my friends started watching Gundom Wing it wasn't until later that I realized shows like Ronin warriors etc. were all part of this "anime" phenomenon, kind of a reciprocal self-awareness that anime was here before I even knew it like many people have already mentioned, instead of "The Force is a field of energy that surrounds us, binds us together.etc." its Anime that binds us together, (actually its ducktape that binds the universe together, or so I'm told

I was more into books, legos, etc. as a kid, though I always enjoyed animation much more than those live or puppet-style kids' shows. I remember *really* liking the style of animation in Voltron, before I even knew what anime was. I never got ay other anime, and rarely got Voltron (I lived out in the country without cable or a dish, so when the wind was right I could get a fuzzy Voltron).

I got into American comics end of HS/early college, and remember really liking certain artists' style (like Joe Madureira-sp?)--I later identified this as manga style. For some reason I was reluctant to try anime and manga, but I finally bit the bullet and tried some in grad school, and from there on I was hooked.

Video games, I never liked much as a kid, but with the release of Final Fantasy in junior high, I was hooked on RPG's.

I was into warhammer. I loved painting, never learnt how to play the game but I would buy masses of models and paint. I also loved reading (still do) and played video games constantly (don't have that much time any more) now my life is nicely balanced between physical excercise and my computer lol.

Interestingly enough I never liked american comics except for the phantom
