...everytime I see Kororo, I think Kokoro. o_o] ARGH..I greatly dislike them changing the names! AND changing the voice of a certain *Chinese* boy into one of a *British*. . .-___- grrrr

Haha, I heard that Lyserg's gender might be changed, changing his name into...............Lisa. Image

Ren=Len (-_-**)(w/ a british accent, i might add)
Manta=Morty
Ryu=Ryo
Horohoro=Trey
Kororo=Kory
Thats all I know of for now...

I can'r stand the dubbed, but I will have to do...for now

I heard the Lyserg --> girl/Lisa thing too, but I’m not seriously worried. As badly as 4Kids comes across, I think a gender-change would be a bit too far, even for them. For one thing, they’ve got the uncut manga published by Viz, so EVERYONE will eventually figure out that Lyserg is supposed to be a guy.

Secondly, remember the Yu-Gi-Oh panic just before the Battle City arc started? Rampant rumors that Malik would be changed to a girl (because of the excessive jewelry) and/or renamed Terrence (which means tender or gracious) ended up being completely wrong. He remained male, and was only called Marik, which is acceptable. There’s no past experience to indicate a possible gender change.

Thirdly, the gender change rumor is brought on (I’ve heard) because Bokutou no Ryuu “hits onâ€

*bursts out laughing* I had absolutely no idea until I just looked at your profile! (You never told me you joined....) ^__^ lol. I still have LOTS of dirt on Ren from Hao-sama. ^____^ Figures we'd meet up at the Shaman King thread.

In other matters, I must gloat. I got 33rd post on this thread! :P

The Ren/Len issue is actually completely acceptable. You can reasonably translate the character as an R or an L. That one doesn't bother me so much as Manta/Morty (which is mildly annoying). At least they don't call him by his full name, which would completely change the feel.

Normally, yes, you can translate r's as l's, but Takei gives romanizations in his manga, and HE said it was Ren. Since it's his creation, I think people should go with that if at all possible.

I second that sentiment. I don't get what's up with changing the nationalities.

Maybe the dubbers thought 'Tao' was British...

Probably. But let's not spend a long time complaining about names and translations. If anyone has anything productive to say about the anime, that'd be wanted.

[I was not aware of the author's pronunciation of the name. Thanks, I guess.]

I've got a question about the manga:

Can anyone tell me about
Hana, Yoh and Anna's kid? I know he was born when they were sixteen, but were they officially married at that time? And why is Hana going to visit Chocolove in that extra "Funbari no Uta" bit? (the manga scan wasn't all that great, and my Japanese is limited.)
Much appreciated if anyone knows and can tell me.
