Naruto Subbed Vs. Dubbed

Postby starwarsboy90 » Thu Dec 08, 2005 11:12 am

Hey, has anyone seen Naruto dubbed or subbed yet? Naruto dubbed is all the way up to Episode 15. In the dubbed version, it so sucks to the subbed version. The plot line is so good subbed, but in the dubbed version, they are not that far into the series. So, has anyone seen the subbed version and can compare how good the series is, as compared to the dubbed version?

1. The plot is exactly the same in the subbed and dubbed versions. In fact, very little of the dialogue was changed, so you're getting (almost) exactly the same Japanese dialogue.

2. How can you say the plot sucks just because it isn't that far yet in the dub? If that's the case, you're actually saying that the first season of Naruto in general sucks, not just the dub, since the dub isn't too different from the sub.

My question is, what do you have against the dubbed version? The voices are actually pretty good. They even pronounce the Japanese names correctly, which is HIGHLY commendable. They kept ALL of the original music except for the opening/ending songs, which really isn't THAT big of a deal. They even minimized the number of edits made since it's being shown on Toonami...trust me, they could've totally hacked it to pieces like 4Kids did with One Piece.

It has solid voice acting, minimal dialogue changes, not bad editing, and all the original music. Seriously, why don't you like it?

Actually, their pronounciations are rather off--bit annoying.

I like the subbed more cause I saw it first subbed and the voices in the subbed are alot more intresting. I love the VA for Haku.

The dubbed however is great. ALOT better then what I expected it to be. As for the orginal openings and closings - there is no way around that. That's what the orginal production company (what's their name?) wanted Viz to do.

As for editing, a little blood not there, a few cuss words left out, etc. Doesn't matter. I was happy that they left the Sexy no Jitsu. I find it rather funny - that's all.

Good point, Imact Alberto I ocmpletely agree with you...0_o

I haven`t seen the subbed, but if the subbed is on the same level as the manga than I see little difference other than most language is cut out as well as blood and the word "kill" is replaced with "destory". I see no other difference.

Eh, not too horribly. Though the little robot dude keeps pronouncing "Naruto" incorrectly...kinda grates on me. They may have mispronounced a name here and there and I missed it, but overall, they pronounce them well.

Funny, since when I watched the eps. awhile back, Naruto had a flashback to the first episode, and I clearly heard him say:

"If you hurt my sensei, I'll KILL you!!"

They do use "kill" every so often, Myoti, but they replace it with "destroy" quite often too.

One of the more interesting edits was the part where Gato's bodyguards come to take Inari's mother, and threaten to kill him. In the manga, she threatened to bite her tongue and drown in her blood if they harmed him, but in the anime they reduce her to begging "PLEASE don't hurt my son." The amusing thing is while she was begging, she looked angry. XP

In the subbed version, they left she threatened to bite her tongue and drown in her blood if they harmed him actually. But in any event, I actually wrote that first thread to see if anyone actually likes Naruto, since I see a ton of people who dislike it alot, well, ok, I'll admit that the plot is basically the same and the first season truely sucks, but it gets so much better as the show moves on, the plot gets thicker and thicker and gets pretty good Spoiler["especially when Orochimaru kills the Third!" That fight was awesome though, so was the fight between the 3 Sennins later in the series as well"].

I have already given my opinion on the sub versus the dub, and hence will not repeat it.

I pronounced most things wrong in the first place (and still like my incorrect pronunciations better), so I find it all pretty annoying.

Actually, I think that if you don't know what is actually happening it works alright. It was still an interesting edit.

The other larger edit is, of course, kill => destroy. I'm glad they kept in some, but it really would have been better for more. Most of the time it doesn't really matter, but a few times it made the lines awkward enough that I mentally cringed. Similar was Zabuza's line about having bathed his hands in the blood of his enemies. Cleaned up it simply doesn't have the shock value, which makes Naruto and Sasuke's reactions a bit odd.

No offense, but... DUH. The subbed is the original with captions. Why would they change it?

But in any event, I actually wrote that first thread to see if anyone actually likes Naruto, since I see a ton of people who dislike it alot, well, ok, I'll admit that the plot is basically the same and the first season truely sucks, but it gets so much better as the show moves on, the plot gets thicker and thicker and gets pretty good

1) Alot of us do like Naruto.
2) I don't find the plot to be the same. It's good, but there is a chance of going down the road (as there is with anything).
3) Hey, I like the first season. You call yourself a fan but don't like that part of it?

Also, while alot of us have already gone past that point mentioned, you need to learn how to do spoiler tags. It's :

[ SPOILER ] text goes here [ / SPOILER ]

Minues the spaces inbetween.

Thanks for the spoiler tags part! Ok, the first season somewhat sucked, but it did give a good intro into the series, though. And it showed how much the main character could grow in such a short period of time. Actually, I'm as far as Episode 158 of 163 so far. Japan just aired Episode 163 2 weeks ago and more episodes are still coming out!

I still don't get why you think it sucks. The Chuunin exam (is that first season?) is one of my favorite parts. I enjoyed more than some of the later events even (though I still liked them as well).

Actually, looking over all of Naruto that has been written so far from the context of literary critique, I think the Chuunin Examination is the strongest part of the entire series.

The writing and battle sequences don't drag but still contain interesting information or character development. Plot elements are introduced well and actually developed instead of being temporarily abandoned. Once you get past the character-overload there are many interesting characters involved. Overall, strong writing.

Guys.... nothing else matters as long as they get LEE and GAI right. =D Which, I'm going to videotape btw~ I so can't wait!

Anyway, I love the dub. And I have the subtitled version, so I can say this unbiased.

Yeah, I can't wait until they get Lee-kun and Gai-sensai in the dubbed version, that will be so cool and so hilarious at the same time!
