If DBZ could be condensed into say.. hm, a 26 episode animation, directed by Yasuhiro Imagawa, with animation by either IG or BONES, I bet it'd be good...

But with Imagawa + IG/BONES, anything could be good. Even GI Joe.

I think DBZ would benefit from 26 episode seasons. It would allow them to compress the story and hurry the action along. Being in it's 80+ episode daily format gives them too much time to waste, IMHO. I'm sure some DBZ fans on the site disagree, and I would also say that the series was made with them in mind and not me, so they are correct.

If you ask me GI Joe would rock if an anime studio and director got hold of it ;)

But on topic. DBZ would be ssssooooo much better if they would actually acomplish stuff in one or two episodes. I stopped watching primarily because it was like a big cycle, but also because I had to wait three days for Goku to power up. Listening to him screem for three episodes gets old.

I did enjoy what I watched and if it moved at a more clipped pace I might still, but it was too slow, and cyclic.

I was talking about this just the other night. Apparently I'm not the only one with this idea.

I wonder if some hardcore fan hasn't already made a "condensed" version with all of the power-ups, pans, and still frames cut down. I wonder how much would be left. 26 episodes? 12 episodes? Even less?

And as for anime G.I. Joe, the guys down at the local anime shop (that I stopped going to because I didn't like the guys at the local anime shop) used to insist that there was such a thing. Apparently it's just like regular G.I. Joe only people actually die when they fight.

DBZ had a lot of potential. I especially thought the stuff with Trunks sounded so awesome, but was poorly executed in anime form. the anime doesn't do the manga justice. the manga is still long, but it's better in several ways (as is usually the case). or at least, the volumes I read were pretty good. been thinking about collecting it again.

This idea has also occurred to me (and I imagine to a great many others). The series would probably make a decent 26 episodes. Quite a few of the characters and villains are interesting, and the plot (particularly the Trunks/Androids/Cell bit) can at times be decent. The amount of character development would probably work well for 26 episodes.

I agree, however, that the anime hardly does the manga justice. Both are stretched, but you can flip through manga pages quickly.

Funny you say that.

Yup.

It's true.

I forget if it's GONZO or IG, but they're animating a GI Joe cartoon for DVD release in the US.

On DBZ..

What about just 13 episodes for each saga. Get a really good Jrock band for the music... give it some really nice animation, and DBZ would be just awesome.

I still think the original Dragonball was great.

But, make this imaginary DBZ go from the Piccolo saga up to the end of Freezer. ENd it with Goku's death, and such...goodness!

I agree with Termyt and UC. The series would be quite a bit better if it was more condensed. I would probably be more interested in the anime if it wasn't so drawn-out and such.

So, I'm sticking to the manga which, while not my favorite by any means, is better...

DBZ's alright but my favorite character died about four times...:eyeroll:

Nobody dies in DBZ. They get sent t another world, and eventually come back to life via the dragon balls. Like you said, he died four times. Sheesh, everyone dies quite a bit in that series. I mean, even the villains don't really die. They show back up in the worst anime ever, Dragonball GT.

While I do not like GT, I do not think it fair to consign it the status of the very worst. But ah well, it does not matter greatly.

Your point that most people come back in the series is true, but there is still death. Toriyama made it clear that this is the afterlife. Death might be trivialized, but it is present. On that subject, there really isn't much reason for the characters to be too upset when someone dies... it isn't like it hasn't happened before.

I was just exaggerating(sp) to make a point.

If in our Pseudoball Z, death was really death, things would be much more dramatic. It's always soem convinient plot twist in DBZ.

The first anime tv show that I saw was the first DBZ movie with little Gohan. I loved it, and since then there has always been a special place in my heart for DBZ. For some reason Dragonball just gets on my nerves. I've seen it a couple of times and would rather be watching just about anything else.

I agree that there are parts of DBZ that are really drawn out. It would be interesting to see it compressed into fewer episodes.

I going to have to completely disagree with saying that DB GT is the worst anime ever. Between Dragonball, DBZ and DB GT, I would have to say that it is my favorite. I don't know exactly what it is about GT that makes it so interesting, but I'm always looking forward to the next episode. It also might be the fact that the story line is so interesting and SSJ4 is just plain awesome.

I'm the opposite, actually...I think the original Dragonball is far better than DBZ, first of all because there isn't so much lame "powering up." There is actually a plot, and stuff gets accomplished. Plus, it's funny. Watching Goku trying to find Bulma's house is one of my favorite scenes ever.

I think that dragonball z is the best because of how long it was AND BECAUSE THEY GAINED THE MOST SAYIAN LEVLS IN IT.GT was too short, SS4 Goku was awsome, and dragonball Goku is sooo cool whith his power poll. dRAGONBALL z IS bY FAR MY MOST FAVORITE ANIME NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS. :comp:

And you would be one of those fans the show is aimed at.
I never got into that much, but I agree with kaemmerite. Out of the few episodes I've seen of both DB and DBZ, I just liked DB so much more for some reason.

Agreed. The original DB was awesome. I also actually like DBZ quite a bit, but less episodes wouldn't have hurt it.

for me, part of the draw to db is that they actually do more in regular interaction rather than battle dialogue, standing in a field with the wind blowing, etc.
so there was an actual plot to it, that was the draw, not so much how powerful the fighters were or anything like that even though that is one of the plus points to the show, but lets face it, if we always knew that the good guys were gonna win and everything would turn out just as it should, would we really watch it?

DB is pretty good, although it doesn't have all the awesome fighting that DBZ does, and GT is just stupid.

I'll just note that I find the wide variety of responses to these three series interesting, in that every time the subject is raised almost every part of the spectrum is expressed.
