Captain Harlock anyone?

Postby heero yuy 95 » Wed May 09, 2007 9:05 pm

K, guys, any other harlock fans? I started watching it on youtube and now I'm hooked! So far I've seen Endless odyssey, Galaxy express 999 (1979 movie) Cosmo Warrior Zero, and now I'm on Harlock saga. As an aspiring young manga artist, I love Matsumoto's style and his romanticized image of space travel. I mean, sure, it can be cheesy and over-the-top melodramatic, but it has a lot of themes (coming of age, manhood) that seem to be harder and harder to find in anime these days. So, any one else dig it?

I've been thinking of tracking down these classic tales because I can vaguely remember seeing them as a child. I'd like to see them again for old times sake.

I can barely remember this anime making a brief appearence on tv, shortly after the "Robotech" series finished. I thought it was a continuation of the "StarBlazers" series, with the design of the ships, and the characters. But, after like 2 episodes it completely disappeared. Is this series anything like StarBlazers?

No, they're done by the same guy, and I beleive the yamato from Star Blazers may make a few cameo appearances in later harlock stuff, but they are generally unrelated. The spaceships do look alot alike though.
