That would be an excellent feature, but I'm not sure how to set up an IRC chat room.

I might look into it when we've got a few more things sorted out. Also we would need a good memberbase for the chatroom to work, but I'm confident that will come in time :thumb: (adds chatroom onto 'to do' list)

well, and plus we've always used the chatroom for the weekly pilgrim's progress meetings, so til then we can always migrate and use the old ones.

There are quite a few Java applets out there for IRC, and ya, you do need a bit of a member base, or else something like the following might turn out...

* MstrKenzo has joined channel #CAA
<MstrKenzo> Hello?
<HappyBot> Hihi!
<MstrKenzo> Not you again...isn't anyone else here?
* HappyBot slaps MstrKenzo around a bit with a large trout
<MstrKenzo> *sigh*
<HappyBot> Don't worry, I'm here to serve your needs! Tell me your problem.
<MstrKenzo> No one is ever on the chat!
<HappyBot> Uhh...cannot comprehend user input...
<HappyBot> G2G.
* HappyBot has left the channel #CAA
<MstrKenzo> Hello? Hello!
* Tumbleweed rolls by
<MstrKenzo> Since when is that a server function!!
* Since now
<MstrKenzo> *sigh*
* Don't worry, I'm here to serve your needs! Tell me your problem.
<MstrKenzo> AHHHH! I CAN'T TAKE THE SILENCE ANYMORE!
* MstrKenzo has left the channel #CAA

A Java applet would rock, that way we wouldn't have to get everyone to download a client. Seriously nice idea.

Yeah, that would be pretty cool. If you haven't heard of it, there is a web site, hotscripts.com, that has some free Java Applets that you can choose from to use for IRC. I think some my have chat bots for just incase there is only one person in the chat room. Some are easier to use and configure than others.

Yeah, if any of our brilliant programmer monkeys could figure out a way to make the chat work for our mac users, that'd be great. Although, I don't even know if that's POSSIBLE.

Programmer monkeys? How ... less than flattering.

you'd be

anyroo, that sounds like a sweet idea. pm me about the chatbots. But yeah, IRC seems like the best way forward, 'cos it's cross platform. Java's also cross platform (as far as I know)

but even if the java don't work, i bet you could still connect thru an IRC client.

One question though -- if you want a permanent chatroom for the site do you have to ask permission from the irc hosts? or do you just get a bot to set one up automatically? *knows nothing about chatrooms*

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I appreciate your programming quite a lot. It's just ... monkeys?

I was watching a muppets show at the time of that posting. I meant it as affectionately as it can be taken. ^^
