This is the perfect thread for Christmas! WHo else here likes Charles Dickens. He writes such beautiful stories. My favorites are A Christmas Carol, Nicholas Nickelby, David Copperfield, and a short story called "A Child's Dream of a Star" (such a heartwarming tale. Chokes me up every time.)
And my favorite character is definitely Tiny Tim. He's so adorable!

Personally, the only Charles Dickens I can enjoy is A Christmas Carol, and that's probably because its so short.

Charles Dickens is a great but hard writer. But so is Dostoevsky, but you can't compare the two.

Did you see the episode of Third Rock From The Sun where Tommy has to do a book report on Dickens so he checks out a video of David Copperfield the MAGICIAN?

I actually really dislike Dickens's writing style. Reading Great Expectations for school a couple of years ago nearly murdered me, I was so bored with it. XD The only work I really like by him is A Christmas Carol. Of course, I haven't read every work he's written, so I'm no authority on the subject, but I can differentiate between boring and intriguing when it comes down to personal opinion. XD

Dickens is one of my favorite authors. I haven't read all of his classics, but I love:
A Tale of Two Cities
Great Expectations
David Copperfield
The multiple interwoven plots are intriguing.
All of the movie/TV renditions of Oliver Twist and A Christmas Carol have spoiled those for me. I haven't read the actual books and don't feel inclined to. Though, my husband assures me that A Christmas Carol is worth reading the actual book.

The best movie adaptation of
A Christmas Carol simply has to be George C. Scott's version. It's a classic in my family. XD And while I like the music in the musical version of
Oliver Twist (Where is Love, Consider Yourself At Home), I just don't like the story. Too depressing. XD

I thought the musical version was fun.Though the version I always loved the best was the Mr.Magoo cartoon one.
