CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

Well shucks, I've never been here before! Mainly 'cause I feel like most of what I have to say about books sounds like it's right out of a textbook - BORING!

But anyway - I've seen "your favorite anime/manga character" and "your favorite video game character" etc., but never ever have I seen a thread about favorite characters from books or plays, which is saddening since I develop attachments to characters from books as quickly as I do to anime characters!

So who are your favorite book/play characters, and why?

YAY! I actually have quite a few favorite Characters from books.

1. Anne from Anne of Green Gables series. She reminds me much of myself: Wild, free-spirited, poetic, a love of nature, and a kindred spirit.

2. Atrus, Aitrus, Katran, and Ti'ana from the MYST books (and games) I have adopted them as my god-parents, They are all strong characters that, although they make mistakes, are not afraid to try to make what was once wrong, right again.

3. Reepicheep from the Chronicles of Narnia! He's so awesome! Aslan is also another fav character from this series.


There are many more, but I can't think of them now, hehe.

Hmm...I think one of my favorite characters from literature has to be Jonas, from The Giver. I loved that book! But one of my more recent favorites has GOT to be either Dar or Wizard Fenworth, from the DragonKeeper Chronicles. I just LOVE those two characters!

Ford Prefect & Arthur Dent - Because they almost never fail to make me giggle, especially during the whole prehistoric chesterfield chasing incident.

The Nac Mac Feegle - Drunken, blue, kilt wearing pixies that will pick a fight with anything

Jane Eyre - She is simply so easy for me to relate to that it's frightening.

I'm sure I'll think of more..

Aslan - The Chronicles of Narnia
He is the literary representation of Jesus: loving but formidable

Sam Gamgee - Lord of the Rings
He is loyal to a fault and is more than just another sidekick.

Kevin - Thr3e
A flawed but interesting personality. Sheltered.

Samuel's dad - Showdown
Shows amazing love that parallels God's love for Jesus

See the red quote in my sig: easily the coolest vampire character, and we can never quite tell what side he's on. The book is Those Who Hunt the Night.

John Childermass from Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, great character development, simply a really interesting character.

Joshua Gianavel from Rora; quite simply, a man of God. And he really existed, too!

Genevieve from Anno Dracula, one of those rare, well-written, strong female characters. And she's a vampire, which is also a plus.

Raistlin from Dragonlance...sure, he's emo, but he's sarcastic and powerful and has good fashion sense and has all the fangirls...with the exception of the emoness, power and fangirls, he's just like me.

...AUGH. You just said pretty much everything I had to say about Raist right there. I love him to death - always have, always will.

Lestat de Lioncourt from Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire - Usually I don't gravitate towards the arrogant, self-centered sort of personality, but Lestat was interesting to me. He was arrogant and insane in his own twisted sort of way, and I enjoyed that. That and I hated every other character in the book. >>

Puk from William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream - Puk is your essential trickster character, and I admire his uncanny ability to cause chaos. That and he's a fairy, and that's just cool.

Simon from William Golding's Lord of the Flies - I first latched on to Simon because his personality and the image I formed of him in my head was very similar to the appearance and personality of my character Arioc]...I'm still mourning his death.[/spoiler]

• Jacopo Belbo from Foucault's Pendulum. A very intriguing, complex character with good humour to boot.

• Puddleglum from The Silver Chair.

• The Big Friendly Giant from the BFG by Roald Dahl.

• Samuel Vimes from the Discworld Novels by Terry Pratchett

• Jean Valjean from Les Miserables

• Fflewdyr Fflam from the Chronicles of Prydain books. He's got a magic harp that breaks it strings whenever he lies or embellishes a story.

Off the top of my head, that's them.

Huckleberry Finn,The most American of all characters.

Jill Pole,The most normal person in the entire Narnia Chronicles.

Ron Weasley,because he's not a brainiac like Hermione or has a Destiny like Harry.

Buttercup,because she has the best name of any fictional Princess.

The Connecticut Yankee,The unnamed anti-hero of Twain's classic satire of the
Industrial Age.

Mr.Chips,The Ultimate British Schoolmaster and because he comes across as what
the Brits have always fancied themselves to be Fair.Read the part where he dares to read the name of the former German schoolteacher who died fighting for the
Kaiser in WW1 when the war is still raging and there's high anti-German feeling at the school and you get a picture of a man who shows moral and personal courage.

Gimli from LOTR. He's just funny and brave and changes over the story
Mma Ramotswe from #1 Ladie's Detective Agency. She spends a lot of her time just daydreaming, figures things out, and reminds me of a Batswana I used to know.

Severus Snape: from Harry Potter
I cant spell her name properly but Elanor: from sense and sensibility
Beatrice: Much Ado
... I have a lot more but it would take to long

Edmond Dantes -The Count of Monte Cristo. The agony of facing outside enemies, pressure, loneliness, and in the end come back humbly to your own faults, and find that if you let go, God lifts you up. He is my hope.

Mercutio from Romeo and Juliet
Ford Prefect from H2G2
Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter
Oshima from Kafka on the Shore (Murakami Haruki)

Oh, and KoDai sold me on Simon. =P

I like MacBeth.Actually I think the entire play is better than Hamlet,but as a character I think MacBeth is a classic tragic-hero/villian.

Macbeth is definitely the classic tragic figure. I enjoyed Hamlet a bit more than Macbeth, but both were amazing plays. <3

Favorite... hm, that would be hard. I was practically in love with Sherlock Holmes at one point... but that's been awhile.

I haven't thought of anyone else at the moment.

actually in the real history MacBeth was a far more effective king than Duncan.

Filostrato in That Hideous Strength is an interesting combination of evil and genius.
C.S.Lewis almost makes him one of the most sympathetic characters in the entire
N.I.C.E.

lol, you and my boyfriend should talk, Sephiroth. He loves the Star Wars books, though he's a bit burned out on them at the moment.

As for me...I always rather liked Jill Pole from the Narnia Chronicles for some reason. None of the other children ever really captured my attention, but she did.

Oh I HATED Pole! LOL. But their funny swamp friend (whose name elludes me) is AMAZING!

Oo, favorite characters in Chronicles of Narnia... cool.

From the children, Lucy was always my favorite character.
From the other characters, it was hands down the sword-fighting mouse. I'm sorry, I've forgotten his name. I loved him. :3

Commander Vimes- Discworld series by Terry Pratchett.

Jacob Tausk- "The Conspirators" by Michael Bernstein.

Marcus Didius Falco- Falco mystery series, by Lyndsay Davis.

Brother Michael- The Chronicles of Matthew Bartholomew, by Susanna Gregory.

Puddleglum was played by Tom Baker in the original BBC version of The Chronicles of Narnia.

As far as it goes with the Chronicles of Narnia:
Lucy and Peter are my two favorites of the Pevensies and also like Jill,Caspian and
Reepicheep.

My favorite Narnia characters are Edmund, Reepicheep [how can anyone NOT love the little guy?] and Rilian. Other non-Narnia characters I like include Obi-Wan Kenobi [the books count, even if they're novelizations of the movies! The Ep. 3 book was better than the movie.], Travis Jordan [I actually knew a guy with that name] from Frank Peretti's The Visitation, Frodo Baggins from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Gonff the "Prince of Mousethieves" from Brian Jacques' Mossflower.
