Gene Wolfe?

Postby bigsleepj » Mon Mar 07, 2005 9:51 pm

Has anyone ever read anything by him? I've never heard of him until relatively recently. I'm reading an old 2nd hand book of his I found in a 2nd hand book store. It's called "The Shadow of the Torturer" and although it is pretty much a book for grown-ups I find it rather interesting and dreamlike. It reminds me especially of "Titus Groan" and the Gormenghast novels by Mervyn Peake. I'm still reading it but so far its pretty good. Has anyone ever read it or books by Wolfe?

I've read the Shadow of the Torturer, but not the third and fourth book in that series.
I found the ideas interesting, the writing style pretenious and hard to understand. Some great ideas, but why does it have to be so confusing?
