Internet Language Help

Hi, this is a thread for people confused about net phrases like lol for example, though that's a bad example because almost everyone knows that. But u get the idea, and the people in the know can help out. However, since evryone is so net language literate, I may end up the only one asking questions XD.

At any rate, allow me to ask what IMHO is. Thanks!

Wiggins

ROTFLMAO is "Rolling on the floor laughing my 'arthritis' off" hehehehe

WTF is "What could that possibly be that you are talking about or just did, I don't understand"

OMG is OBVIOULSLY a refference to everyone's favorite heavenly anime, "Oh my goddesss" and OMFG is a cry for a sequal, "Oh my fair goddess"

Ok... joke explanations aside

IMHO is "In my humble opinion" which is ironic, because usually in conjunction with that phrase, the opinion is not very humble

LOL is "Laughing out Loud" but I prefer to say "Living on Lard"

WB is used primarily in chat rooms, and it means either "Welcome Back" or "Warm Bacon" I skip the acronym altogether and merely say "Warm Bacon"

That's all I can think of.

I have one I use often, and that is "IMNSHO"

Edit: XD doesn't mean anything... It's a smiley. It's eyes tightly shut from laughing so hard, with a big open-mouth smile

じゃ、ね!

BRB = Be right back

AFK = Away from keyboard

BBIAB = Be back in a bit

TTYL = Talk to you later

A/S/L? = Age, gender, location

CR = Chat room

IRL = In real life

That's all I can remember from chat room conversations! :sweat:

No way, AFK means 'A Free Kill', often used in CS or other FPS gaming. Oh wait, it's just me...

:lol: I use OMGosh, too.

I haven't gone to chat rooms recently, but I do play internet Half Life with people on the net. You can basically talk like in a chat room. It is sooo fun! Here are the acronyms I use in Half Life.

NS = Nice Shot
GJ = Good Job
TY = Thank You
Thx = Thanks
G2G = Gotta Go
BRB = Be Right Back
BBL = Be Back Later
OMGosh = Oh My Gosh
WTH = What The Heck (I use it. Sorry if I offended anyone. Most people use the other, worse one.)
PPL = People

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Well, for ingame chat you've missed the famous "GG" for Good Game (often quicker than typing the whole thing out, though I still mapped it to a key when I was playing Unreal).

I suppose you could also add my fave for years:

l8r or CU l8r (later, see you later).

TSCOVWFEIOTCSRA

"This sentence consists of various words from English, in order to create some random acronym."

My point is, I suggest you just use proper English with spelling when you type things on the Internet, if you can help it.

I'm suprised that no one said INAL yet (I'm not a lawyer).

And my favorite one for online gaming comes from one of the older school games...

BK = Boss Key.

(Some of you oldschoolers will get that, I bet.)

I was digging around and I came across this spiffy little site....
http://www.acronymfinder.com/af-query.asp?String=exact&Acronym=gg&Find=Find
It's a acronym finder! Search for almost any recent acronym!

GG = Gefahrgut (German: Hazardous Material)
