That's right:
We will not have a completed 3D version of the film within our release date window…Despite everyone’s best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality. We do not want to disappoint fans who have long-anticipated the conclusion of this extraordinary journey.
sourceI'm happy to see that they abandoned this due to quality concerns. This is far better than releasing something like Clash of the Titans.

I am quite relieved to see that not everyone in the film industry is going crazy. Having some 3D movies is all right but I hate that they're all but mandating it these days.

Oh my gosh, this is the greatest news. XD Not that I was going to see the 3D version in the first place, but I'm glad to hear they aren't sacrificing quality for more cash!

when I saw the title of the topic I was actually a bit dissapointed (I like 3D) But if all it was going to be was a conversion to 3D, then I'm glad they aren't doing it. 3D converting is stupid, unless its actually FILMED in 3D I'm not really interested

I have no interest in this movie but I might go watch it anyway just to show my support for it not being in 3D.
More directors need to push back against Hollywood to obliterate 3D. For reals.

I'm an echo to Winry's response. 3D makes me sick as a dog, I can't stand it!

I agree with Nate on this as I have no interest in the movie, but I may do the same as well.
Die 3D die! Go to 3D heaven!

I can't believe they were even considering converting it to 3D. Shooting in 3d is fine. Converting to 3d is terrible (unless it's fully CG and they can just re-render it, like I heard they did with Toy Story 1 and 2... Too bad they didn't come to Korea)

I agree, converting to 3D is one of the worst things you can do to a movie. It ends up with a "diorama" pseudo-3D appearance. Movies that are meant to be 3D are all right but it's usually not necessary even then. Until they can produce TVs and theater screens that can actually read the position of your eyes and show you 3D without making you wear annoying glasses, I can't see the 3D thing becoming universal.
Now 3D games, those would be cool. I've played around a bit with the Virtual Boy and liked the concept (the technology was a little...lacking).

I read an article somewhere that gave pretty solid arguments as to why 3D will never be any good for anything but movies.
http://www.nysportspace.com/forum/topics/why-3d-tv-is-idiotic-and-will
The same arguments would also extend to video games, except in the case of say, the 3DS where the 3D doesn't require glasses.
