Link to the trailer

This movie is based on the first three installments of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole book series, which is a cross of animal fiction (like Watership Down or Charlotte's Web) and epic fantasy.

I hadn't even heard of the books until I saw this trailer, but I think I might need to take a look at them now. The imagery in this film is pretty fantastic, and while a lot of the plot elements seem overly-classic, I'm not one to complain about such things. Happy Feet was also way better than I thought it would be, so I think this deserves more attention than the trailer would normally merit.

Oh, and it's directed by Zack Snyder. So even if the rest of the movie is terrible, it will at least be amusing to see how he handles the shift from hard R action to children's fantasy. (Also helm-wearing owls are amusing in their own right.)

Is it going to be as enviromentally-wacko as Happy Feet? Happy Feet's moral was just too much for me. Stop eating fish! You'll starve the poor penguins!

I honestly doubt an animal fantasy story is going to have such a message. The trailer also says from the animation studio behind Happy Feet.

Regardless, I am seeing this. I used to read and watch animal fantasy/fiction books and movies when I was young and this looks quite promising. I love owls too.

I saw the 3D trailer for this at Alice in Wonderland yesterday. I hope it's as amazing as it looks!

Also owls are awesome.

I will agree the helm-wearing owls thing is interesting. The graphics look brilliant, of course. I just hope the plot delivers. I'll keep a look out for it, though and give it a watch when it comes out. ^_^

Soo yeah Thread revive!

I just saw this movie...it was well, an animal EPIC Fantasy! The characters were awesome, and touching and I felt really engulfed by the story, and I found myself shouting quietly when things went well and when things went bad...

The graphics were stunning and very detailed...and I saw it 3D so it really popped.

This was nothing like Happy Feet...it was a heckuva lot darker, and the fight scenes were very well done! I definitely could tell that director of 300 also directed this movie...

I was very pleasantly surprised...who knew Owls could be such awesome warriors?!

The pace seemed a mix of slow and at times too fast... I honestly wasn't sure the first 30 or so minutes were going...but it kinda wrapped itself up better by the end.

there were also a few Owl/Bird Jargon that I had to look up when I got home.
They frequently talk about Tytos ruling the Owl Kingdom...and I didn't know exactly what they meant by that. After looking it up, a Tyto is the family that Barn Owls and owls similar to them belong in.

Also they frequently talk about gizzards in this movie...and relate it to directional use...I still need to look up what a gizzard really does in a bird. haha!

So I give an A- and I definitely want to read the books!

I saw it in 3D and it was really well done, unlike a lot of films out there. :)

This makes me want to go and pick up the series again. I've only read three, a while ago, so I'm sadly way behind.

The quality of the 3D was not a factor, the use of it is.

Unless you're saying the movie is full of cheap 3D thrills like an owl swooping right out of the screen at you or they blow a noisemaker or one of them is like "HEY CHECK OUT MY SWORD" and points it at the audience.

Unless the 3D is going to make me laugh by being cheesy, I'm not paying extra money to wear glasses OVER MY GLASSES for a blatant money-making grab by film executives.

Amazing. There's literally nothing bad I can say about this movie at all. The fight scenes were perfect. No shakey camera and you knew exactly what was going on in each scene. The story is pretty typical but I thought it was very well done in a unique way. So getting this when it comes to DVD.

I have read the first few books of the series, and I have to say, it is an extraordianrily well-written children's series. I love it a lot, and am thrilled to see it coming to the big screen!
