A Fourth Pirates? @_@

So I've heard that Disney's got plans on the table for a fourth installment for "Pirates of the Carribbean." If anyone else has heard this, is anyone else as disgusted by this as I am? I mean, I'm really looking forward to the third movie, but having a fourth movie
where I hear they kill off Will Turner
makes it so obvious that they're milking the franchise for all it's worth. I mean, as much as I loved the first two movies, I really don't think it's possible to milk four good movies out of a Disney World ride (even if the ride is a classic). It's money-hungry companies like Disney that ruin the movie-goer's appetite. :/
Anyways, what do you all think of this? And if someone can say with all certainty that what I've heard here is a dirty, nasty rumor, please feel free to do so. XD

Where exactly did you hear this? I mean.. I wouldn't put it past Disney with all their awful animation sequels, but it's kinda ridiculous. Plus it would be impossible to say at this theoretical point whether or not a character dies.

Well, a friend told me about it, and she probably read it somewhere. Can't say how accurate her source was (though I can ask her where she read it tomorrow), but I seriously hope she found out from like...a tabloid or something. XD

If my impression of Mr. Depp is accurate, he wouldn't be interested in a fourth movie.

Actually, this is kind of old news. The thing about Will Turner is completely false though (the studio denied it atleast) and was apparently just an internet rumour. As far as number four... that is correct. In fact, 4, 5 and 6 are not out of the question. And Johnny Depp has said that if the scripts are good and stuff, he would love to keep doing them. He said there is obviously a time when everything ends but as long as there are good stories, he'll keep doing them cause he loves the character and loves working on these films...

Old thread is indeed very old, but you do make a good point. It's been almost four years with this talk of a 4th PotC. Why haven't they done anything until now? Did they finally follow the advice of the public? (or just run out of funds? XD)
I heard a title for the fourth movie a while back (Fountain of Youth or something?), so it seems like they're going through, but maybe not. I personally hope for the latter. ^_^;

Actually, he's said in interviews that he loves Jack like an old friend and would welcome as many opportunities to play him as they will allow. Not saying anything about how good they'll be, but I've heard this movie was in the tubes for a little while.

If it makes you feel any better, the "@_@" immediately gave away to me how old the thread is. Oh, internet, forever preserving our past selves.
It's actually terribly frightening.
OT: As long as the movie is good, I have no problem with this. There is no reason that movies should be restricted to a trilogy format. (Hopefully this movie will be more like CotBP than the other two.)

Interesting thing about the fourth movie is that it's based on a twenty-year old time-travel novel "On Stranger Tides" by an author called Tim Powers (father of the secret history sub-genre). The book is entirely unrelated to the franchise, so it would be interesting to see how fans of the original book react to the movie which can only be a loose adaptation.

I'm with Lucky on this one, I probably won't see it until it's a tv special or something like that.

O.o Holy crap, I remember this thread! XD wooow.... That's been awhile back, ain't it? One of the first threads I lurked. Good memories.
ON TOPIC:
I've been tracking the progress of this movie since I finally got to see the 3rd one. Glad they're finally about to start filming it. I just hope they have the script written all the way. I seem to recall they filmed one of the last two with an incomplete one.
Something about Johny Depp's character for Jack Sparrow... It amuses me to no end. It's unique in the awesome kind of way. I can see why he said that 'old friend' thing. It's the kind of character I would love to write for if I had the ability/talent.

The first thing I thought when I heard that Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightley won't be returning was: This is either the hugest mistake they could ever make, or the best thing that could ever happen to this series XD Seriously, those two "actors" are, I think, a large part of what made the sequels suck as much as they do. They probably would have sucked anyway, but they made it worse.
If you ask me, the first sequel was overkill, but there's a small chance somebody can redeem this thing and get back to the heart of why PotC was so awesome in the first place. I'll just wait and see.

The second and third movies grew on me. I think that having being in a large family that regularly marathons said movies at family get togethers (which means I get to see them several times a year) had an impact that way.
And unfortunately, I am looking forward to this fourth film. I am quite sure I will watch anything that has Jack Sparrow as long as they keep making them.
