Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

Postby Needle Noggin » Mon Nov 13, 2006 3:45 pm

Moments after seeing Snakes on a Plane, I was abousolutely certain that I had witnessed the funniest movie ever created. I was incorrect. Borat is the funniest movie I have ever seen, and will most likely stay that way forevermore. Words cannot describe how much I enjoyed this movie. Sacha Baron Cohen is a brilliant actor; not for an instant does he get out of character. This film also does an awesome job of showing how rediculous racism is and how stupid racists are. I don't thing there was a period longer than 5 minutes where I did not laugh raucously, sometimes to the point of losing my breath.

I give Borat a 10/10. I recommend it to anyone who wants to laugh.

Thank you, Sacha Baron Cohen for a $6 very well spent.

I've heard that it was a really funny movie and seems like the latest cult-classic hit (heck, apparently it topped box office)... but I noticed it was rated R... what bad stuff is on it to make it so?

Age doesn't matter when it comes to bad stuff^^ There's some content that no one should really even see...

Actually, I have a classmate who is from Kazakhstan who was REALLY upset by this movie and was hoping it would bust. I told him I'd join him in boycott.

Mmm, the Kazakh government is REALLY angry about this, and I've read that it's extremely crude. I don't plan on viewing it myself, from the reviews I've read, it treats the Kazakh people as vile drunks and drug addicts. Not my taste, to be honest.

Some my friends saw it. One of them called it "gay-porn" and the "worst seven dollar he's ever spent". Lots of nudity and all men I understand, including full frontals, men wrestling naked, references to female anatomy using less than decent terms. It's designed to be satire based on being offensively funny, but mostly it's just offensive.

Sorry, but I stopped reading your post right there. I have no interest in the film at all. And don't plan on seeing it. But if someone liked it, hey more power to em.

Borat is basically the most offensive movie ever made, but it's at the same time very freaking hilarious. The Kazakh government in this case is stupid. They don't get that the whole movie was made for shock value.

It's projected to be the highest-grossing comedy ever.

Shock value is :/ And with that said of being it such a blockbuster, is sad with what people think of comedy these days v_v I remember back in the day when comedies didn't NEED shock-value to earn so much money :/

I don't plan on ever seeing it because the nudity (yes its all males) and not to mention a certain part were you witness Borat being saved (from what i have heard its the only high point of the movie) and he is shown speaking in tongues buuuuuut what started as a tender moment is played out for laughs and i find that highly offensive.

The guy looks like Ali G if he dressed himself as Groucho Marx.
Too offensive for me, don't think I'll be seeing it.

The movie seems to be made to make everyone who sees it angry, and some people like to be offended sometimes. Although it seems to be making terribly fun of the Kazakh people, I suspect it's more bent on making fun of Americans.

When having a content review on "http://www.kids-in-mind.com/ the content rating was this...(P.S. 0 means no content and 10 mean there is TONS!)

Sex: 9 out of 10
Violence: 5 out of 10
Language: 6 out of 10

That is for Borat. I think the 9 out of 10 on sex says it all.

I don't even know why they have to have a review concerning kids for this movie, seems a bit stupid considering it's rated MA15+ (here).

Don't you think there should be some kind of limit as to what we watch as Christians. The movie sounds pretty much like a smutfest disguised as a comedy.

I was curious about this movie when I saw the previews for it, and now I want to see it even more, if for no other reason than to see what everyone's so **** off about.

Smutfest? There aren't even any naked women in the movie, just men. So maybe women shouldn't see it.

I enjoy movies with more intelligent humor as opposed to shock factor. I'm sure it's hilarious, but I'm not going to be seeing it just because of the stuff involved. I mean.... you have to draw the line somewhere even if everything else is funny. *shrug*

If you feel you need to limit yourself, by all means do so.

However I watch things and listen to music MUCH MORE offensive than anything presented in Borat, and I'm just fine.

The only gross part that they show in the ads is when he uses the toilet water to wash. Then again they always show the less shocking parts of movies in the ads.
As far as it goes I suspect Cohen is really Andy Kauffman in disguise!

To give you an idea of what this movie is causing people to believe, I read in USA Today that the Kazakhstan Embassy in the US has been fielding calls with people asking questions such as, "Do Kazaks really drink fermented horse urine?"

Wow, that's pretty sad that someone would actually believe something they heard off a movie :/ That's like saying... "I just saw Jaws... should I be afraid now to go back into the water?" or something like that.

I suppose I will never understand why people get so offended over something as dumb as a comedy movie, which pokes fun at pretty much everyone.

That being said, I enjoyed the movie a lot. Well-acted and kept me laughing the entire time, though it's definitely not a film I'd suggest minors see. It's rated R for a reason, people.

I love satire. I love comedy. I hate Borat. Why? Because you can satirize, even offending people, without being vulgar. If people are offended because it points out something they don't like, its great. But Borat does not do that. Many of these problems are already known and joked about in America. So it was not the satire that is so offensive (even tho I would understand someone from Khazakstan being offended by the satire), but rather the vulgarity. Vulgarity is not funny.
