Why Mozilla?

Postby Pantakrator » Thu Jun 03, 2004 7:51 am

What's going on guys? I just got a laptop (running XP) over the weekend and I'm installing so called "mandatory" downloads... Right now I'm using the Sernade 5.01 beta for a shell and Winamp and lots of other MS tweaks or alternitives, but I've been hesitant to mess with the browser... Why should I switch to Mozilla? How stable is it? Will it work with download managers? I use GetRight. I'm not anti/pro MS but at the same time I want the best stuff... So what's the verdict?

BTW, you can check out the AWESOME Invader Zim theme I use for Serenade here;

Well, while any software is only as stable as the computer running it *takes a moment to kick her machine...it really does make it run better...;)* Mozilla has had a very good track record with me. It VERY seldom crashes (which is really saying something on this comp). While I don't know its compatibility with download managers since I don't use one, unless you count its internal download manager, I would say that it's very likely you could find one that would work. In fact, I'm thinking that there's a site...*digs* Ah, found it!

http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/en-AU/windows4.html

That page has the necessary stuff to install download managers on Mozilla.

Another thing to consider is that Mozilla is a lot more secure than IE. People don't usually write viruses that infect Mozilla/Firefox/Thunderbird, etc, so that makes you a little safer in the long run.

(in response to an interview question "Do you have a pet peeve having to do with this biz?")
People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. We of all people should write with all our hearts, as if writing for the Lord and not for men.

Crap! Now I'm thinking about loading Firefox... Which one is better? Does Firefox's native download manager support resume? Will I have any problems with my Yahoo and Hotmail E-mail accounts, and should I use Thunderbird? Argh!! Brain overload...

They're all the same rendering engine; it's just a matter of the features that come with them. I think Firefox is pretty good, myself, although I use Camino (another Mozilla derivative) because it's Mac-native and has faster rendering times IMHO.
