I have one beautiful Mac. It's a G4 iMac, 15" monitor (thought the 20" are quite beautiful) SuperDrive DVD-R/CD-R, um 800 MHz. 256 MB. I currently running OSX Jaguar. Hopefully when I get back from break I'll get Panther. Evolution of the species baby.

I wish I had a power book though, or a new G5. Aww well I love my baby.

The flat panel macs are sweet. I'd double the ram in that guy presonally, if you are going to put panther on it. It's not required, but it REALLY helps out in the speed department. When did you get it, BTW. You may qualify for apple's Up to date plan where you can get a copy of panther for about $20.00.

And to answer HC's question, only Apple makes the macintosh line, now. There was one small point in history where they allowed other people to build their hardware too, but that was closed up fairly quickly.

Heh. I'll be installing my extra gig of RAM for this dual G4 this evening. That'll bring it up to 2GB physical memory. w00t!

I was reading a benchmark that actually put the older dual G4 (through the first iteration of the dual 1.25GHz) as slightly faster than the second generation (through the 1.42). Cool.

Well, since we're updating, my dual G4 is now up to 2GB RAM. I'm looking for a processor upgrade later this year -- not to a G5, though, because that will lose OS 9 compatibility and I still use OS 9 from time to time (not Classic -- these apps are too old and don't like Classic).

Wow. Gravedigging from OVER 1 YEAR ago. LOL. Here's the specs on my newest box. (Mac users please place napikin under chin to catch drool.) This is no *my* machine, just the one I use at work.

Mine's 5 years old. So far I've had to replace or have replaced: the monitor, mb, 2 sets of 3.1 speakers, a set of headphones, 2 kb's and 2 mice, the hd is next on the list. The thing's been in for service 3 times since I've had it, and the last few years I've managed to learn how to keep it chugging along.

The G5 comes with 8 slots that can handle up to 1 GB each. Evidently they weren't really hurting for space and wanted to save a bit on the bus width.
