Reading the Bible

Hello! I have a question.



Well, after I'm done reading the Bible how do I end it? I feel rude because I read the Bible, I read a passage, finish reading it, put the Bible down and run off watching TV or play video games. What am I suppose to do?

So I end in prayer? Then do I just go do my other things such as entertainment? (Tv, video games, etc.)

I think you read it, then think about it and take it close to your heart. In the prayer you thank God and after the prayer you can do a variety of things.

That's an interesting question; I find it odd that I haven't given it much consideration before.

Ultimately I'm going to say that it doesn't particularly matter. However, what I think is important is if you take time to think about the passage and learn from it. Over the years (do not let that phrase fool you into thinking I am old and actually experienced) I have come to believe that simply reading the Bible doesn't do a lot of good. But if you take the time to let it speak to you it can be transforming. And if it is, that means you take whatever came of it with you into your next activity, even if it is something not religious in the slightest.

I find it helpful, once I've read a passage, to ask the Lord what he meant by it. After all, He should know, eh?

I usually read it at night when I have less things on my mind. I would maybe suggest ending or begining with a prayer for God to help you understand what you read (like Kal and JM said) or take about 5 min afterwords to think about what you read if that works for you. Nothing disrespectful or wrong with going on to play video games after. I find myself thinking about what I read a lot while I'm going about my day. The important thing is taking time out to read the Bible at all.

Yeah, after I read, I pray and ask God to speak to me, about the passage, and about whatever else He wants to tell me.
