Are you serious? I thought it wasn't supposed to be out until June 14th! I guess it's time to whip out that Barnes & Noble gift card! Yay!

I'm serious. I thought it was supposed to come out May anyway, but I wasn't really expecting it to come out this early at the bookstore.

For those who are wondering, the front has a brown color scheme and looks pretty cool.

Aw, darn it. I still have to read 3 & 4. But I'm short on money, now, so I can't just buy all. Better wait for another sale, then. Considering there's 28 volumes, it's going to be a long wait for the other volumes.

Why don't you just go read them at the bookstore? ^^x

I don't like doing that... it feels like I'm cheating them out or something. Anyway, I traveled 45 minutes to the nearest big bookstore and... No Rurouni Kenshin Vol. 5. *sigh* I'll just wait till the 14th, I guess...

I read them there, but I do always buy them. However if I don't have the money, which I hardly ever have that's free to spend, I read the manga, then when I can, I buy it. ^^x

I'm afraid I can't show as much enthusiasm since I had the complete manga set since 2000. But I definitely recommend getting the manga. It's good right till the end, IMHO. Buy Kenshin, buy! XD

How'd you get them all?! *gives Mave an envious stare* (By the way, since you read all of them *jealous look*, was there any nudity?)

:D Most Asian countries are very well-acquainted with anime/manga and indulged in this industry longer before U.S even knew it existed. My RK craze happened in 1997.

:eh:

Yes, that's how long it's taken for RK or most manga titles to arrive to the U. S.

Let's see, from what I recall RKenshin has no explicit nudity. You may see minimal exposure of legs and cleavage (only one female character) but they are very very minor by manga standards. The mangaka (Wastuki sama!) seems to hold great respect for his female characters. ^_^

Yeah, I love Watsuki. I like how the ladies in RK are so strong and independent. Hmm.. I just figured out if you buy all 28 volumes as they are released in the US, it will cost over $224!! Looks like I'm in for the long haul...

Okay, thanks, Mave. ^^x

$224. $244. $244...! I DON'T HAVE THAT MUCH MONEY! *howls and cries* No way am I spending that much money...hey I know, I'll only buy the ones that look really interesting...why oh why is manga so expensive...?

So, I've gota question..... Is the RK manga different from the anime? Or is it the same?

hmm...let me try to answer this since I've watched almost all of RK TV series (except the last season) and the Movie.

First off, I think the RK manga is divided into Arc (Story plot sections)

Manga Volumes 1 to 6
Hiruma Arc/Zanza Arc/Megumi Arc/
Yahiko Extra Story/Raijuuta Arc/Sanosuke Extra Story

Manga Volumes 7 to 18
Kyoto Arc (the one with Shishio)

Manga Volumes 19 to 28 (end)
Revenge Arc (Jinchuu)

TV Series
I think the TV series generally follows the manga until the end of the Kyoto Arc. However, there are many fillers, "episodes that are not officially in the manga and were created to fill up time and space" (by my definition >_< ). I personally dislike fillers since they're usually poorly written and make the characters "out of character." Erm...never mind, moving on.

The Movie
The Movie has absolutely nothing to do with the manga. So it's like a giant filler but I enjoyed it.

OVAs
I heard Tsukio Hen: First Kenshin OVA generally cover parts of Jinchuu Arc, with some minor differences. The art style and mood for all OVAs drastically differs from the TV series though.

Seiso Hen: Second Kenshin OVA also cover bits and pieces of the the Jinchuu Arc but less than the first OVA.

Disclaimer: I may not be as accurate as I would like to be. Anyone is free to correct me.

Yes the animation/art for the OVAs is...strange...Kenshin looks like a man and he's not exactly supposed to. @@x

Yay the arc with Shishio is coming soon! Supposedly it's really good, a friend of mine calls him the "Toasty Mummy." ;^^x

Actually, I think Shonen Jump has really good prices, compared to the $10 price tag sported by Tokyopop and ADV. It must be more expensive to print comics than text like in novels.

Look at it this way.
In the long run, it may cost $200+, but in the short run, they only cost $7.95 each at several month intervals over the course of several years.
That's generally much more affordable, in the short run, as you don't have to have $200+ at once.

If I had only one choice to blow all my savings on, RKenshin would be it...(with Naruto being very very close to being the next choice).

Scary thought. The only Ruroni Kenshin Manga I have read is number 5. That's because a friend lent it to me.
If I weren't knee deep in 8+ other series, I would get the Kenshin ones too.

Oh and I am not sure if this was addressed, but it seems to me that Borders always has my series I want almost a month before their release date. Other frequent haunts of mine get them about the same time as the release date. Can anyone else confirm/deny this?

Confirmed. ;^^x (But oh well, at least we don't have to wait as long)
