It's not perverted any more than the anime is. The manga does have a bit more nudity than the anime, however (the same applies to Inu-Yasha, which {you are correct} is by the same author). However, the nudity in both the anime and the manga is largely intended as comedy, not fanservice, mostly to show how crummy Ranma is at being a girl. The only other major content problem in both is Happosai the lech, but generally he has little to add to the stories he's in.
That being said, I'd still put the manga and the anime firmly in the 13+ rating (which, to their credit, is exactly how Viz sells it). If this is a problem for you, I'd stay away. It *is* a very funny series, though, otherwise.

Trust me, there is *no* full frontal nudity in *any* episode of Ranma (I've seen all 161 episodes, all 12 OAVs, and all three movies). You might have been looking at *sigh* fanart.

fan art? these were gifs strait from the anime... Shampoo i think is the character... some guy walks in and shes nekkid, but its only her chest, and nothing is hidden. its "Otaku anime gifs" in the ranms 1/2 section.... and so you kow that rant above was for inu yasha
{link pulled ... S.}
if your brave enough look for yourself... other wise i wouldnt suggest this sight... i may take it down...

This is getting waaaay off topic here (the anime), but I assume the one you're referring to is Shampoo's shower scene from OAV #1. There are some isolated fanservicey bits in the OAVs, but I'll talk about that when I post the formal review I'm writing. (Link pulled, by the way ... I don't think we need to encourage sites like that.)
In any case, getting back on topic, this doesn't change the fact I'd still rate the manga 13+, and that's exactly how it's sold. I still think the series is very good, but if that's a stumbling block for you, avoid it. Otherwise, it's very well written.

The majority of it is, IMHO, and that's true of the manga as well. It's just that there are portions that, well, aren't.

I am so in agreement with Shooraijin on this. Ranma 1/2 is a classic. If you want to know anime or manga at it's best you'd love Ranma. I'd agree, it's PG 13. The manga ka who wrote this is one of the best and has been doing it for such a long time. She handles each of her stories with so much wonderful character development and the nudity is obviously a cultural preference of comedy. It's like watching BBC when you're in England. They see humor a bit different than we see humor. I mean, you have in the Japanese culture families who take baths together. We'd be in awe and shock if our moms or dads jumped in the tubs with us. So, you really have to consider the cultural relevance in their humor.
I'd give Ranma a big thumbs up, unless you just don't want to read it. That is ultimately your decision and no one can make that decision for you.

I agree that this is a great title. The nudity is kept at a low level, and as was mentioned it's more cultural in nature.
You really do need to pay attention to the age ratings to know what you are buying. You may want to stick to titles like, Hello Kitty, Hamtaro, Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar, and others that are geared more towards the younger children. There are some titles that will contain nudity that you would not really expect. I remember my son brought home a copy of Dragonball from the public library that included a scene of a nude Bulma in the shower, so even though it is promoted as a children's anime, most here would not consider it as such in it's raw form.

Finally a thread on this anime! hehe.
I've read up until the 3rd Ramna 1/2 manga and I have to say in my opnion it's the best manga I've ever read.
In the anime itself there is no nudity or anything, but in the manga there is some nude parts in it, but it's really no big deal. If you read the first manga, in some ways, the nude parts in the manga is really needed for Ranma to help explain things. You'll understand more if you read it. It's really not bad at all. Most of it is clean. If you like action and comedy, I recomend it.

No, he's quite serious. For those who are concerned about such things, series geared to younger viewers are guaranteed not to have such content, and just because they're targetted at a younger audience doesn't mean they're stupid or insult people's intelligence.
In any case, I just posted the official review of the TV series and the movies/OAVs I'd been working on in the Reviews section. Hopefully that will answer some people's questions.

And excellent reviews they are too.
My intention is as Shooraijin said. I did not mean to come across as insulting anyone. Actually, I myself enjoy a number of the titles intended for younger audiences. For instance, Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar is a great series. Yes, it is geared towards a younger audience, yet it comes across well for any adults viewing it also. Another wonderful 3 and up anime is Mao Chan.

Ranma in my opinion, having read several of the books, has (arguably) worse nudity than Love Hina...its quite anatomically correct, and from my experience, isn't limited to cultural incedents (shirt gets torn...a fire hydrant gets broken, cold water hits ranma, transformation occurs) It's a hilarious series but yeah... my recommendation says High School or older. (I'm 19 and it still shocks me a little as to how much is shown.)
