Blame!

A kind of new manga that has been out for awhile called Blame! By Tsutomu Nihei. Very dark almost gothic dipiction of the future where cyborgs persecute humans and life is taken to be very worthless.

Tsutomu Nihei previous work was called Noise which shares the same concepts as Blame! He has also worked on an American Comic SNIKT! which puts wolverine in the Blame! world.

Blame! has a very different Art style to other Manga, vist here for a proper review:

I was just wondering what the community here thought about it or if anybody has possesion of this rare-to-buy manga. Be careful though you may come across disturbing imagery when reading this manga, lots of blood and R+18 rated action scenes. Nothing much kids havent seen in comics though. :P

NOTE: A scanlation group has scaned up to chapter nine of this manga but I'm not going to tell you who it is because I dont want people ripping of the artist when this is finally a licened manga. Seach for it on google!

After I saw the cover of the manga and read a short review on-line, I had to get it. Unfortunately the scans didn't word on my computer...maybe I'll get it in Japanese when I learn enough (maybe in 2 or 3 years at least *sniff sniff*) but yeah I've never read it but the art looks reeeally cool.

Problems!

Blame! has some questionable material in it though. Number one being the violence and number two is that you can transfer your being (soul) electronically into computers etc making you immortal. This manga assumes that technology is possible.

Another manga that challenges this question is Ghost in the shell, but thats another topic we might have a heated debate about.

Personally, I don't really find any of the character's in BLAME to be in our realm anymore. The whole "cyber dungeon quest" is just it--a cyber dungeon quest. I don't even think the story started out in our universe in the first place.

It's just my opinion though. BLAME! is a favorite manga of mine because of Nihei-san's inking and character designs. About Snikt... argh, US comic coloring and throwing in a bunch of Marvel one-liners just kills his style.

But yeah, heavy HEAVY violence--definitely not for those that personal convictions are against these kind of comics.

In Noise, Tsutomu Nihei prequal to Blame! it does explain that we are in the same universe but the 'Chaos' has taken over the Earth, the moon etc so Killy must be 'somewhere' in the universe.

Probably, but in the last volume it seems that Killy did manage to "leave" the netsphere--I won't say anymore since it's a major spoiler.

Musubi (the main char in Noise) does live in a "primary reality". But since it seems the netsphere has a more or less direct access it sounds more like it's mainly a different (but primary) sector rather than a "real world" as it is in our universe.

Like how safe-guards can roam about and how Musubi's consiouness (and Clawsa's) can be transfered to the netsphere so easily. The "primary reality" Musubi's in doesn't sound like a reality that *we're* in--just another part of the cyber world to which the governing agency has control over.

At least that's what I gathered till now. Since the current reality Killy's in is hardly the reality in *our* universe with all the time bending and "reality overrides" with multiple deaths without really dying at all...

But BLAME! really is another one of those works that can be interpretted many ways ^^ Which is another reason why I like it so much XD

There is a 6 part BLAME! anime ^^ Though I would recommend it if you don't mind some timeline bending and nearly zero dialogue in 2 minute episodes XD (But the music is spiffy)

I saw the Blame! logs. They are a record of cibos memory all thrown into a can and messed about, well thats the general idea anyway.

In one word the logs are "Trippy" and dont really make sense if you haven't read the manga, even if you have its still difficult to understand.

Blame! dosen't remind me of blade runner in anyway because in Blame! they dont show off there "Techno Toys". In Blame! we usally know nothing or very little about the technology used. Blame! is a very *unique* Cyberpunk genre that can't really be compared to anything. That's just my opinon though.

Agreed, BLAME! really is one of the most unique cyber punk series I ever seen. Especially coupled with the safe-guard/creature designs (and the amazing architechture--not surprising since Nihei was in that major) plus great GREAT flowing style.

Besides, it's the only manga series with a combined text of all volumes less than something like, oh, one volume of Sailor Moon, and still manage to tell so much (or at least tell so much in an extremely ambiguous way).

Artbook!
