Who's your fave? I'm pretty much a Viz person. Gotta luv the shonen stuff.
But TokyoPop is right behind them!
Viz has all the main stuff
DBZ
Naruto
Evangelion
Kenshin
Nausicaa
etc...
But Tokyopop has alot of good stuff too.

The majority of mine are Tokyopop, but my favorite series are from three different publisher. Tokyopop (Lament of the Lamb){OT}, Viz (ExcelSaga{OT}), and ADV(Aria/Gunslinger Girl {All/15+}).

Personally, I rarely glance at the publisher. The artist's work generally comes through, unless the translation has been terribly done.
However, I do want to monitor this thread for my own sake.

I'd have to say Tokyopop because of the extras and background info they put in their volumes, not to mention the sheer selection they offer. Sometimes they print opening pages in color; always a plus for me. Shonen Jump (Viz) is nice because it's cheaper, but I don't like how they don't have any color images. ADV published my favorite manga, Azumanga Daioh, and had a lot of nice color pages but were kind of inconsistent in their translating. However they did have an "appendix" in the back with explanations on Japanese terms and traditions (understanding everything makes Azumanga 10 times funnier)

Yeah, I agree. When it comes to Anime, I'm biased by what dubb company I like, but with Manga, I buy whatever apeals to me, regardless of publisher. Typically, though, ADV Manga, TokyoPop, and VIZ have more or less the corner on the market for publishing Manga in the states, but Broccoli and DelRay are getting their foot in the door too. They're all pretty good in my opinion. Oh. And Tokyopop's been publishing in the right to left format for the past several years. They do have some series that they've flipped, but typically, the majority of the series I've read by them is in the Japanese printing style. VIZ was the same way for a while too. They just didn't know if American readers would want to read it in it's orginal printing format.

Lol. Yeah, I could see the possibilty of people getting a bit uptight if their fav. company was dissed. I don't really care what people say, I like what I like, and their opinions won't change that. But that doesn't mean that what they say doesn't have merit, though.

My pet peeve is when they publish the tankoubon different from the standard size. With Azumanga Daioh I can sort of see why, because it's 4-panel strips and making the book any shorter would cause it to be difficult to read. But I prefer all my books to be level on my shelf. (OC... can't help it XD)
