I buy magna for my anime collection. I have over 50 anime magna books. I read these things to follow things. I have spent over 300 dollards on newtype and shonen jump and magna alone. Oh yeah there is one more thing. Over at ebay they have this special dragonball z pack. The pack contains all the dbz, dbgt, dbz/ gt movies and a rare movie not in america. It is 54 dollars. Well that is it.

I buy it for pure entertainment. Need something to read when I'm bored.
I also buy it to share with other people. Yay.

I buy it to [hopefully] help me draw better.
I also just love collecting things.

In all honesty, I don't. Most of time I read it:
1) On the internet when that is legal
2) In stores
3) At friends'
I guess that answers the question already...

I've just started buying the occasional manga as something to read on my obnoxiously short lunch break. After eating, i have about fifteen minutes to sit in my car and relax. A manga chapter is about the perfect size for that fifteen minutes.

I buy it because I want to support the US manga industry, and because I love to read it!!!

To support the artists, to support the industy and to have the art on hand to reference when I'm drawing difficult things.

Because I like comic books (yes they are comic books- If I say that to a friend of mine, he gets offended. Heh). (If it interests me I'll read it.)

I buy manga to read ( in Rurouni Kenshin's case) what the author really wrote before the anime. Plus, it's fun and expands my japanese vocabulary.^-^

Its cheaper than anime and it helps to understand the animes better most times . . . like in Fruits Basket they are slightly different and you get to see a bigger picture ^^

1. cheaper than anime.
2. manga are often better than the anime, in much the same way that books are often better than movies.
3. good drawing reference.
4. portable!
I think that's about it.

Ah I like shiroi's reasons! Defintley most of the time better than the anime and prtable is always good! I can't draw very well, so I try to use it as a reference, but get frustrated . . .

I buy them for entertainment, but mostly the artwork. I hope to write mangas one day, and at least be a freelance artist. Like others have said, manga is portable, and something that is fun to read over and over again.

I buy Mangazine to support Anime Angels. (And because I rather enjoy the work of the mangaka that contribute to it. ^_^ )

Well, I buy manga because I like 'em. Usually, it's also bbecasue an anime isn't (legaly) available yet, like Naruto. However, I also like the read the manga versions of stuff like Inu-Yasha to see how it compares to the anime (in the case of Inu-Yasha, I also get to imagine that the action didn't REALLY stop for ten minutes to allow for all that exposition
)

Me too. I also read the random volumes that my library has. Much cheaper that way.

My library has zero manga. Darn libraries, always behind the times. . .

Why buy manga? Because they usually won't give you books for free. (yes, I have scans on my comp, but I like the real, professionally printed stuff.)

Well, I don't know that you could say my library is with the times. They seem to pick COMPLETELY random issues. It's almost like they let a dog play with the list and then only bought the ones that they could still read afterward (and guessed on some of the ones they didn't know).
But, yeah, that's my ranting on that.

1) cheaper than anime
2) portable
3) wonderfully 'chunky' size and feel (think about it... manga are the perfect size)

1) It's not as time-consuming as anime. I'm a time-constrained person.
2) Cheaper than anime.
3) Reference for my own mangakaing efforts. It's hard to do that with anime.
^^

I buy it because I would be buying books (or anime) if I didn't and that would take way too much time to read (or watch), plus novels do not have bishies, or other pretty pictures that allow me to continue to delude myself into believing that I may someday be able to draw well ^_^.
That and I really just enjoy buying things.
