If this is less offensive, I do think you will like the movie of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. It's more serious than the actual series, so if you watch any anime version of it, then stick to the movie ^.^

Also, the historical content is mostly accurate... it might be because the mangaka graduated from The University of Tokyo with a degree in Turkish history.
