Favorite Christmas Carol

Postby Wild Eagle » Sun Oct 02, 2005 10:12 am

I know it's a bit early to be thinking of Christmas...but it's only a few months away:).

Anyways, what is your favorite Christmas carol? I really like 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman'. 'What Child is This' and 'We Three Kings' are also favorites of mine.

Remember Christ our Saviour
Was born on Christmas Day
To save us all from Satan's pow'r
Where we were gone astray

O tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy!
O tidings of comfort and joy
"Have mercy on me O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion, blot out my transgressions" Psalm 51:1

"Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth, you will again bring me up." Psalm 71:20

"An eye for an eye, will only make the whole world blind."- Mahatma Gandhi

My favorites are We Three Kings and Angels We Have Heard On High. I arrange music, and I have done a lot with Christmas carols. Is it ok if I post some of my music in here?

Il est ne? I have never heard of that one before...how does it go?

I know there's another French carol called 'The Holly and the Ivy' which is pretty good.

Ah, yes -- Christmas music is most certainly my favorite kind of music; especially the songs and arrangements I grew up listening to. Good memories... ^______________^

Sorry for double-posting, but I just uploaded my music. I'll give descriptions so you know what you're in for.

Little Drummer Boy - this was my first time arranging
http://media.putfile.com/drummer50

Angels We Have Heard on High - I did this with only strings
http://media.putfile.com/AngelStrings

The First Noel - my first attempt at something not upbeat
http://media.putfile.com/Noel50

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen - this has a very unique sound and it has a lot of drive
http://media.putfile.com/RestYe

Oh Holy Night - this is just designed to be peaceful
http://media.putfile.com/Holynight

Angels We Have Heard on High/It Came Upon a Midnight Clear - I decided to try a medley with these two
http://media.putfile.com/AngelsatMidnight

We Three Kngs - I really love this song, so I made three versions

This sounds like something for a high school band
http://media.putfile.com/WeThree

This is very experimental and has a South American sound to it
http://media.putfile.com/WeThree2

Don't be fooled by the slow start on this one. It gets pretty crazy.
http://media.putfile.com/WeThree3

What Child is This - My dad arranged thiis one. I like it way better than any of mine.

Forgive my bad french spelling.

Il est ne le divine enfant
joue hobois resonde musets
il est ne le divine enfant
(I can't rember the rest of the words heh)

It's something like: He is born the divine child
Play the oboes, sound the trumpets
He is born the divine enfant.

I can only rember the first part. It's a really pretty song. I have the words to it somewhere in a pile of papers stufffed under my bed.

Kazekami -- I know the song you're talking about, and it is a lovely one. :) I've heard a version of it from the 1960's with English words that partly go:

He was born in a stable bare:
On bed of straw now He sleeps so soundly.
He was born in a stable bare;
Bow in homage before Him now.

Ages long since have passed and gone,
Since the wise men foretold His coming.
Age long since have passed and gone:
Noel, noel -- o let us sing!

He is born, this divine Christ child...

[MelMak's note: I forget the rest of it. ]

Meboeck -- I'm sorry, but for some reason I couldn't hear or download any of your music; and I was so looking forward to hearing it. -_- (Edit: I figured out why; apparently I need to use IE, not Netscape. I'll try again later...)

What Child Is This
The Coventry Carol (my piano teacher told me not to play it, she said it's morbid, but I like the tune)
Carol of the Bells
and my personal favorite, I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day. I love the poem, and the melody is so sweet.

I don't believe I know the Coventry Carol -- or else I do, but by a different name. How do the words to it go, SirThinks? :)

I'm not sure of the exact words, but it's all about King Herod killing all the infants.

Told you it was morbid.

This isn't a carol, but I like the Messiah. The whole thing, not just the Halleluia (sp?) chorus.

Oh Holy Night is my favorite. I love Josh Groban's version ^.^
