The International Year of the...POTATO?!?!?!

Talk about anything in here.

The International Year of the...POTATO?!?!?!

Postby Sakaki Onsei » Tue Jun 03, 2008 8:53 pm

That's right everyone, the year 2008 is designated by the United Nations (regardless of how one may feel about them) as the International Year of the Potato due to it's importance as one of the four big staple crops of the world, and it's importance to multiple national cultures.

So, in honoring this humble tuber, what is your favorite way of having a potato? Or what potato facts do you know?

I have a potato fact:

In 2007, 3 varieties of potato have been deemed as having a high dry matter contect, making them perfect for a sturdily constructed french fry.

Potatoes are awesome. You can make batteries with them.

But the best potatoes are served hassleback style.

Isn't it really weird of all the different ways to serve a potato? I really could careless form a potato is in, I'd still eat it anyway. Scalloped, fries, mashed, baked, and others.

Mashed potatoes go great on Shephard's pie. Has anyone else had it, it's really good.

I like eating a potato, and this is kind of cool.

My mom makes great "Hassleback style" potatoes. We call them "cholesterol potatoes" because of all the butter and whatnot that goes on them. And my gran makes the best fried potatoes ever! Potatoes are great anyway you prepare them.

I think I'm the only one on the planet that doesn't really like potatoes all that much. French fries are okay once in a while and I like to have mashed potatoes every so often, but other than that, meh.

Sweet potatoes are way better than regular potatoes. 8D

I like potatoes anyway you can make them...I just have to stay away from the fried stuff (though Whataburger french fries are amazing!)

So, when you guys eat a baked potato do you eat the skin too? I do --it's very nutritious, actually.

By the way, thanks for helping me decide what I'm having for dinner tonight. Boxed Potatoes Stroganoff it is.

Potato fact: A potato is a thickened stem that grows underground.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Apparently a fast way to grow a bonsai tree is to use a potato, and let it sit so those white things grow on it. Then you can trim it and treat it like a bonsai tree..
