Kindergarden votes asperger sydrome child out

Postby Momo-P » Tue May 27, 2008 4:25 pm

Don't believe it? Think again.

http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2008/may/24/30gtteacher-lets-students-vote-out-classmate-5/

Although the article doesn't make it too clear, my mom and I saw it on the news today. Apparently the teacher not only did this, but when the mom picked her son up, the teacher told her it. IN DETAIL.

I mean...what the heck? Why on earth would somebody be so sick and evil? Voting out a child is wrong enough to begin with, but a kid with asperger's syndrome? It's not like he can help it! In the video interview, the mom also went into detail on the friend turned against him.

Apparently her son did have one good friend in the classroom, and according to the report, he didn't want to go against Alex. It wasn't until the teacher addressed him again that he finally agreed into voting his friend out.

You also wanna know the worst part? When the man doing the interview asked why the school didn't take action, you want to know their response? "Well she didn't believe what she did was wrong." Oh ya. Because...yanno. Rapists, murders, theives, etc. They all believe what they're doing is ok, so IT MUST BE.

What bull. ._. Poor child.

geesh...my school days are comming back to me....>_< stupid private christian school. sorry...I have bad memories of abuse from kids and teachers alike. =_= I can sympathize with the kid and his family. geesh. Hope he doesn't attempt suicide in first grade (or was it second...pretty sure it was first)like I did...that was fun.

Something should really be done against that teacher. I read the article, but I can't remember was it a public or private school?

That is completely and utterly ridiculous. If that were my child, I would have that teacher fired and give her a seriously huge piece of my mind. If it's okay for her to vote my child out of class, then it's okay for me to remove a couple limbs and organs from her body.

Really though, that's horrible. I honestly hope she gets fired and sued for all her money.

I agree wholeheartedly. Although as much as I want the teacher to suffer by getting sued or getting her liscence revoked, no amount of money will ever buy that kid's self-confidence back. That poor kid is never going to be the same again. Man I wish I could slap that teacher and give the kid a hug.

The community at WrongPlanet have been up in arms about this. Along with myself as well.

I couldn't say anything at first from reading it. But sadly I can say I'm not surprised. At times I've had similar events happen to me, so obviously I'm even more angry by the teacher's and board's actions over this.

What I find even more in-human though is the comments some people have made in that news article. Sometimes I really am challenged to wonder if they have any hearts at all.

You know... my eight year old son has all indications of having asperger's, and my younger brother has it as well... In my... um, "wayward" days, shall we say, when I wasn't as filled with God's love and compassion... had that been my son... I would have gone to the school and punched the teacher in the face. Seriously.
However, that would be wrong and would only serve to dignify that monstrous woman's actions...
As it is now, I'll be praying for the boy, his mom and the school, because there is something evil going on there. :(

I know! I mean, I find it interesting how treating someone of a different religion (well, certain religions, anyways) wrongly results in discrimination, but they don't see this, a child who clearly has no say in having autism, as a blatant form of discrimination and teaching prejudice to an entire classroom of impressionable children. No wonder society today is so scr*w*d up (sorry, I wasn't sure if it was okay to say this or not because it could get confused with slang and such, so I censored it).

This is just another example of our society's leanings towards eugenics...it just makes me so sad --and indignant that they would treat this child like this--this is no way to treat a human being!
I pray that this is resolved quickly and that the teacher is made to face the consequences of her actions.
I wish I could give that boy a hug and tell him how much God loves him and how valuable he is. He must feel like crap.

Wait a second, I don't know of any sources, but this happened at a Christian school you say? Or did I misread the post?

no, I just checked... it's a Port Saint Luci school district public school... a private school would have fired the teacher, I think, rather than to have a negative publicity scandal...

... I hate to say it, but I still think she needs to be smacked and *hard*... I wish I could just hug that poor boy and let him know how special he is... :(

That's what I was asking...I was quoting a prior post that had said it was, and I was asking for confirmation. just forgot the little part that makes it a q. *?*

*sigh of relief* I would have really been shocked then. Honestly speechless.

I really pray you can be there for your son Nekochan. Throughout his life, he's going to need you more then you could possibly imagine.

Sometimes...sometimes I really wonder if anyone with a difference about them that people can't automatically relate to, not just aspies. But I wonder if these people have an unnatural ability to release the very worst in people, whom then fully justify their actions.

By the way, he is doing better as reports say. I think he'll come through.

I wonder.. How would she feel if this was done to her child?

I'll bet you $10 she would have felt that it would have benefited her child. And that he could learn from this in order to decide if he felt he wanted to "raise his status" at his fellow students.

I really am shocked *speechless*... if this were my kid I would gather up a mob and do something I probably shouldn't. I hope that boy realises that this is because of the teacher's disability (to love and understand) and not because of him.

The teacher should be dealt with in accordance to law and school policy. If she did not violate school policy, the proper course of action is to change school policy. (For example, providing special needs classes or "intervention specialists" so students can have their needs attended to w/o disrupting the entire class)

On the other side, I'm not in favor of turning this kid into a victim. We have way too many victims in our society and millions of others waiting to for their chance to be a victim so they can cash in.

I think reinforcing to this child that he's a victim and he was treated unfairly is as damaging as the original incident. This could be a powerful lesson in standing up for oneself and recognizing one's own weaknesses and improving them.
