I had an assignment today to write a fabricated news article. I racked my brain for a couple of hours trying to come up with something --I finally started getting desperate (and very sleepy), so I came up with the following:

Texas Man Builds Statue of Turkey

A 50-foot statue of a turkey now oversees the landscape of southeast Texas all thanks to a local man. Charles Thorton, a resident of Trinity, Texas, spent 6 months constructing the statue using materials he located in the surrounding town. Tourists flocked to the town to see for themselves this strange phenomenon. Construction was completed on May 5th, when Thorton held a grand opening ceremony with the entire town present.
“Where would America be without the humble turkey? It was up for consideration as the national bird, you know,” replied Thorton when asked the purpose of his very unique statue. “I just wanted to construct a tribute to the turkeys. We owe a lot to them. They've been important contributors to this great nation. America was built on the wishbone of the turkey.”
Visitors are welcome to visit the statue which is located next to the Mill Pond Farm Country Market and Restaurant in Trinity. Pictures may be taken of and with the statue at a fee of $5 each. Thorton is currently pushing the Trinity City Council to make his statue an official city landmark. There is no word as of yet as to whether this will come to fruition.

I can totally see this happening. I've given directions where I've said, "You'll pass a statue of a pink elephant..."

haha! That's a really fun article!

I won't point out the errors... (XD I was a high school and college newspaper reporter for 3 years) so I won't go into the AP style, because its SO much different than what people are used to writing.
