Well first I wanted to be a race car driver, then I wanted to be an "inventor", then I wanted to be pilot in the Air Force, but now I think I'm going to be a programmer.

I had wanted to be a meteorologist for the longest time and maybe even a writter at one time. Right now I'm thinking either somewhere in sound engineering or Theoretical Physics. Specific fields I haven't chosen yet.

All of you will say "aww" but when I was in elementary school, I wanted to be a missionary.

The moment I saw Indiana Jones, I wanted to be an archaeologist. (My mother will tell you it was way before that, since I was always digging around for snail shells in her garden >.<)...but then I found out real Archaeology is never that exciting. And you don't even get a whip and a cool hat. So I remain a faithfully devout Indy fan, as my new boxset will attest. :thumb:

Then I wanted to be an astronaut...hey, maybe it's the fact I live in Houston. Who knows. But I found out you had to be A--really, really good athelete and B--super smart at math or science. They weren't just gonna pay you to go in space just because you think it'd be cool, and there's never been a history/english major astronaut.

By the time I got into high school, I was convinced I would be a top-notch journalist/editor for a major newspaper by the time I was 30. I made it to editor-in-chief this year and if I never work on another news-staff, it might not be a bad thing. As much as I love the written word, I simply cannot write every single day for the rest of my life on such a short deadline. My poor creative brain does not do well under stress.

I've always wanted to build computers, and I still do this day. I would just learn a little programming on the side note, but mostly build, fix, and sell computers. I can make some good money out of it, maybe... Hey, Bill Gates is a billionare. Maybe I can invent my own software that is free to upgrade. Unlike Microsoft. But I'm getting a little off of topic. I want to buil and fix computers. I've mostly always had that dream, and I still do.

When I was little a child I wanted to be a soldier, but then I grew out of that. In middle school, I wanted to be a doctor, because they made a lot of money. Yeah, I was greedy at a young age. :red: After that, I wanted to be a psychologist, because I had (and still have) a great interest in the workings of the human mind. By the end of high school, I had decided I wanted to be a lawyer, because then I could earn a respectable salary without knowing too much science or math (that is not the only reason, of course: it also suits my talents and goals). I still want to do that, although I am vacillating between that and becoming a teacher. Either way, I can fulfill my desire to do the other thing (although it would be easier as a lawyer ;) ). My dream would be to have law as an occupation, and then teach Sunday school in order to have the opporunity to teach others. :thumb: Of course, I never grew out of the soldier (although I would call it warrior now) mentality, so I am still interested in the martial arts.

Heheheh... Mine takes the cake. Septic Tank Cleaner. I remember one time when I was very young and a man came to our house to clean out our septic tank (using a giant vacuum pipe hooked to a large truck). I was so fascinated by it, that's what I wanted to do when I grew up... thankfully, it eventually wore off. Image

I've always wanted to be a scientist. At least since I was three years old, and my parents let me stay up to watch Carl Sagan's show "Cosmos" when it was airing (which was 1980). Now kids have great imaginations, but what this show talked about was better than anything I could ever have dreamt up, and it was real.

My real interests were astronomy and geology. Eventually, general necessities forced me to choose a more practical path. Since I had a lot of interest in computers, but still wanted to do science, I chose to study electrical engineering. I've still had time to take some courses in geology and geophysics thankfully. And it was during my undergrad years that I became involved in neural networks (which would help me land my student job at DREA).
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

i don't know if i put this on the first post or not but anyways if i did i apologize and you can just skip this.
i'm pretty sure that i said that i wanted to be a lawyer so that i could help people to make their lives better, but that's not exactly the whole story. i'm a pretty argumentative person and i'm good at getting my point across. people are always telling me that i'd make a great lawyer. and until recently that's the only thing that i'd ever wanted to do. i know a lot of people think i want to be a lawyer just to make a lot of money, but that's not the case. i couldn't care less about the money. as long as i make enough of it to get by every month i'll be fine. what i would really like to do is to make a difference in someone's life for the better. i'd always figured that being a lawyer would be a great way for someone like me to do that. arguing is something that i'm good at and i like to do, but i don't think that i could do that forever.
i remember that a few years ago i was teaching a friend how to play a card game she said that she thought that i would make a good teacher. i just filed it away thinking yeah right me a teacher uh huh sure.
i like to see people learning new things and most of all i like to see people smile and be happy. i'm pretty good at making people smile.
anyways, english is my favorite class and always has been. i know a lot of people hate it because there are so many exceptions to the rule but that's exactly why i like it and i'm pretty good at it. well at the beginning of the year in english our teacher was making us write down what we wanted to be when we grow up. well i don't know why but just then i remembered what my friend had told me a few years ago and was like hey. i'm pretty good at english, i like seeing people learn new things, and i would really like to make a difference for at least one person. so then i figured that being an english teacher would be a good way to do this. but i guess since for a long time that all i've wanted was to be a lawyer i'm a little confused at this point. anyways, sorry if this is a bit long, but i had to put it down somewhere.

Hmm. I wanted to be a Game Designer for a few years while I was growing up. The thing was, I was a game designer for a while then. I got bored, and wanted to be an astronaut. Then I found out what kind of grades you have to have to do that. Eventually, I settled on playing with computers and getting payed for it - which eventually lead to programming. ;)

When I was little I wanted to work with animals and/or be an artist... Now I draw and sculpt animals! A bit of both worlds.

Let's see... At one point I wanted to be a Psychologist, but when I heard that Psychologists have one of the highest suicide rates, and when I thought about listening to nothing but people's problems day after day... I rethought that one. I'm a free psychologist for my friends, but that's it. :)

At one point I thought about being a singer in a band... I still think that might be fun, but I don't have the personality for it. Good voice, but no stage presence. So that's out.

I've wanted to be a horse trainer... Wish I'd started earlier in life on that one. Oh well. (Not having a horse anymore puts a damper on it, too.)

I still want to be an artist... and now I have the guts to do it. Before, I was too scared of rejection, but not anymore. (Don't get me wrong; rejection still sucks. But I can handle it now.)

4~6 = robot pilot, game developer
6~8 = robot making scientist, game developer
8~10 = high-tech mechanic, game developer (started programming)
10~12 = physics professor, game developer
12~14 = physics professor, game developer
14~16 = game developer
currently = game developer
will be = game developer

I thank God for my life. amen to that.

[edit] oh yeah, when i was about 12 i DID win a lot of awards for inventing this addon to led pencil that made sure the lead would never break once and for all. so being an inventor could still be included.

let's see.. I can't remember exactly when but here's a list of the things I've wanted to be:
1. Vet --love animals (esp. dogs and horses) and was a huge Walter Farley fan back then ^_^
2. Anthropology/ Linguisitics--ancient civilizations= yay!
Studying languages, especially ancient and obsolete ones=Yay!!...of course, I think I was kind of picturing something Indiana Jonesish...
3. Martial Arts instructor--hey why not? I love martial arts.
4. Writer--novelist to be more precise. ( I havent let go of this one completely yet)
5. Actress--Broadway performer *heh*
6. Voice Actor--would still like to do this.
7. Singer--yeah...I still want to do that too.
8. Programmer/Game Developer/something computeree...
I would like to learn all this, as I am fond of computers, and this is more realistic as a profession that most of the others I've mentioned...but being the illogical and mathematically illiterate person I am, it's not likely.

Gee..I guess I want to Singing Voice Actress that writes novels..no wonder I can't get a decent job!

What it is that's truly important...
Although I can't afford to forgive even myself,
Because you were there,
I was able to be myself (Natural).
I want to be honest...I want to be kind...
I want to be the adult I once (in my childhood) longed to be.
I go on fighting against the heart to run away...
I go on fighting against that invisible something!"

When I was young I wanted to grow up and win a Grammy Award for songwriting or Academy Award for writing the Best Music for a motion picture. When I became a teen-ager I wanted to draw comics. When I was later teens I wanted to be a journalist or dancer. Then, when I went to college I wanted to be a psychologist or a writer in some form or another. In my 20s I wanted to be a police officer or missing person investigator. In my 30s I wanted to be a novelist. Today, I'm happy to say I studied all those professions and in my writing I became them all. I think I really wanted to be a renaissance woman.

What do I want to be now? I want to see my kids grow up happy and in love with the Lord, growing in His knowledge and grace. I want to leave a legacy of love. The fact I cared about others and gave them a little of my Lord in how I treated them. I'm corny like that.^_^

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Let's see...

At one time or another I wanted to be a Lawyer...

Then I was into architecture (My dad had this one program on our old computer where you got to makes layouts for houses... I LUVED IT!)

There has also been some dreams that are totally NOT for me, Ice Skating, Singing, Choreographer... (I even considered being a nurse! But shots give me major heebie-jeebies! *shudder*

And right now?

Well, now I wish to work with some kind of animation/video game design/programming/web-design type of stuff. Basically, stuff combining art and technology, maybe with a wee bit of math involved... (I used to be a grade ahead... Now I'm back down to normal for missing a few too many homework assignments)

Still, I'm only a freshman in high school. I've still got a coupla years to decide. After all, my mom says that she still doesn't know what she wants to be when she grows up. :eyeroll:

Verily, Miladies all. Let us away to the Faire. Though in truth, 'tis most like the Middle English than Ye Olde, as Olde English was the realm of Beowulf's author and his ilk, and Middle, forsooth (I just had to stick that in there, sorry) 'tis the tongue of The Authorized Version.

All right, now that that is over with...

An it please, My Lord, not quite yet.

Pardon me...*retrieves "Ye Olde Bat" and hits his other self*

Okay. When I was really little I wanted to be a cowboy. As I grew older, discovering a concurrent love of books and mathematics, I made this simple calculation: city-boy + ranch hand = slightly impropable. That dream dashed, I continued for a while having no real plans for the long range future.

The next job I considered myself for sprang from my love of reading. As a proofreader for a small christian publishing house, I would get advance copies of books, some of which I would like to keep. This one fell through when I was told that a proofreader has to know grammar. And grammar. And more grammar. (watch me disqualify my self with two sentence fragments and possible misspellings. Oh, and a dangling preposition) Seeing as I did not like grammar, that wound up on the "negative" side of the ledger.

Which brings me to my last misstep before my current position. Because I love math, some few others advised me to take up accounting. I briefly flirted with the idea of becoming an accountant, but fled when I realized that most of what they do is: a + b +c + d = e. Not my idea of fun.

My list right now has two options. The first is to teach High School Algebra, a subject that children have been trained to fear from an early age. If someone is to disspell that misconception, why not someone who actually likes it? It's not really that hard, being at it's core just abstract arithmetic.;)

Second, you ask? Run a clean pool hall. How's that for dichotomy?
