Seriously Sickening...

Postby ChristianKitsune » Thu Jun 05, 2008 8:04 pm

An elderly man was recently hit by a car in Hartford Conn. And NO ONE even stopped to help the man...and the car that hit him is still on the run.

I understand that you shouldn't move an injured person, but not one person came to this poor man's aide...for a very long time (at least until the police came) The cars didn't even slow down for a while O_o what the heck?

Discusting...(caution, this video is a bit shocking... but I felt it needed to put out there in case anyone sees this car... it would obviously have some damage, and I believe it's a Honda...)

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_E3ldpFbjo

This man is like in his 70s, and is now paralyzed from the neck down and in Critical condition...

I remember seeing that on TV and wincing like I never winced before (okay, once before but that was in kindergarden and it was a misplaced kick).

Anyway, me and my mom thought it was odd that everybody watched it, but nobody ran out to help him! Granted that moving him may have done more harm than good, but still, you would think SOMEONE would have the good moral sense to DRAG him off to the sidewalk!

The hit and run is sickening beyond belief. :\

I'm not surprised nobody stopped to help the man though. I don't stop when I see someone on the side of the road needing help. It's a bit sad, but these days you just can't take chances.

Yeh, I saw the vid on CNN. It was disturbing, but I'm not surprised that no one was gracious enough to stop. The power of individualism goes a long way.

Excuse me..??
For what?
Compensation for getting shock when hitting someone with a vehicle? Repairing bumper damage? Getting new tyres which may have worn slightly during the incident?

And how she manage to get the phone number anyway? Was it a hit-then-ask-for-phone-number-and-run?

So sad. I saw it once on the news and then couldn't watch the replays when they mentioned that there was blood all over the place and his head was cracked open. *shivers*

I mean, you can't see it in the video (and least I don't think you can't), but it's all still disturbing.

So sad. Aren't we supposed to (by law) stop and render aid if we witness something like this? I remember hearing something like that in driver's ed.

That poor man...

It's like the parable of the Good Samaritan --the priest and the Levite walked past the man who needed help. Only sadly, there was no good Samaritan in this case...

We need to pray for his family. This has got to be overwhelming.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

It's unbelievable that no one would even try to help him! good grief.
Definitely need to keep his family in prayer.

Only if you're the cause.

Still I wish people wouldn't pass judgment on those of us who wouldn't stop, because I know I wouldn't. For those of you who would, it's nice to know all I'd have to do is put some fake blood on my head, and get invited into your car, and then hold a gun to your head and rob you. People these days are evil and horrible and it's just really unsafe to stop for someone you don't know.

However, what I WOULD do is pull out my cell phone and call 911 and say "There is a man who appears injured at this location" and let them handle it. I'm not exactly trained in first aid so I wouldn't be any help anyway.

Also the parable of the Good Samaritan was really more about racial prejudice than anything else.

If you actually witnessed the hit-and-run, then it's extremely unlikely he'd be dangerous to you.

Yeah if I saw it it'd be different. XD But they way they're describing it is if you just saw a guy on the side of the road that looked injured. I wouldn't stop.

Another fine example of how sue-happy we as 'Americans' have become. I ask you, as a christian and a red-blooded logically reasonable human being, HOW THE HECK DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL??! I mean, the absolute gaul to call up the family of the victim and hit 'em up for money! If that had happened to me I most assuredly would've blown my stack, knowing myself.
And then there's the fact that she got their number! How the heck did she get your family's number??! Who was she, a stalker? Just when I thought I'd heard everything...

There's a little issue, in all of this, that people don't know that much about:

1.5 minutes was the time frame in which no one PHYSICALLY responded, except for 4 people who did the right thing and called 911. Within 2-3 minutes, police were there.

That, and when you have a hit-and-run victim, not moving him is the best option because of the potential for further paralysis.

So, I'm not going to say that people didn't "help" the guy, they just didn't do what I would do, which is to park my vehicle out of the way and direct traffic so that no one else gets hurt.
Hiyakawa Sayaka (my character from my writing) wrote:God has given me a gift, that I really don't know what to do with. I guess, all I can do is put it in his hands, keep my hands inside the car, and expect to end up destroying parts of Tokyo with my perfectly good guitar.
