QFT.

Another thing to consider is this. If it costs $1,000 a month to host a website, let's say, and the person makes $1200 through ads and donations, he's likely not going to take the extra 200 and pocket it to buy heavily salted snack treats and carbonated sodas. He's going to put the extra 200 to NEXT month's hosting costs. Thus he really isn't making a profit, he's just ahead on his bills next month.

Sou desu ka?

(So uh... do you think it's OK if I put up paid ads on my scans/scanlations website...? I mean on the basis of scanlator's honor, not on the actual law. Because I've been wondering.)

So, looking more into this issue: (from CNN)

He (Vander Ark) said he initially declined proposals to convert the Web site into an encyclopedia, in part because he believed until last August that in book form, it would represent a copyright violation.

After Rowling released the final chapter in the Harry Potter series that same month, Vander Ark was contacted by an RDR Books employee, who told him that publication of the lexicon would not violate copyright law, he said.

Still, to protect himself, Vander Ark said he insisted that RDR Books include a clause in his contract that the publisher would defend and pay any damages that might result from claims against him.

To my understanding, people began flagging his videos. Usually youtube mods take down videos without even watching them, as long as they are flagged enough or influenced with lots of money. (Think Scientology).
Anime should be taken like all forms of entertainment: with a grain of salt.
